MAYHEM Is Chromatica's Other Half

In Disease we see Gaga blinded by a white light refracting colors, chained to herself. I thought this was a cute little nod to Chromatica but after seeing the Abracadabra video, the white outfits reminded me of the white tribe that was cut out of Stupid Love. If you didn't know, white is all the colors of the spectrum combined.

So it got me thinking... Is that the white tribe in the Abracadabra video? Sonically, the song starts off House (like Chromatica) then goes into Acid Trance, Electroclash, then Operatic vocals. It's the transition from Chromatica to Mayhem. -- from structure into chaos. The video follows the Chromatica Ball brutalist stage which represents her mind. So instead of running away from Mayhem like in Disease, she faces it.

Furthermore, Sine From Above goes, "When I was young, I prayed for lighting [...] Before there was up, there was silence
I heard one sine And it healed my heart, heard a sine". If you remember her Apple Music Chromatica interview she said that SFA is based on the theory that the universe started from a sound wave -- music is a creative force.

How does the Abracadabra video end? Thunder and lightning

Her light side was crucial in navigating Mayhem. Chromatica is not just about pretty colors; and is now part of Gaga's main message about embracing the totality of yourself

Don't insult Mayhem like that :bear:

The two songs we have so far completely obliterate any track on Chromatica easily and they're demonstrably better written :messga:

...also Chromatica was super dark :kry: Joanne is arguably her only "light" album. Maybe The Fame too. The rest are filled with heavy themes of trauma and pain and are wall to wall with heavy sounds (even if it wasn't well executed on Chromatica).

To me, so far Mayhem seems more like a mature introspective look to where she was for ARTPOP.

Your Chromaticaphobia should be studied, understood and then outlawed....I actually need to write this essay because she doesn't get the recognition she deserves :stupidoreo:

Full disclosure it's a 10/10 album, it's just that literally everything else she's done is 15/10 or better :icant:

Chromatica is incredible, from the artwork to the music (except for Fun Tonight and Plastic Doll, which are the only weak spots). I’ll never understand how some people praise ARTPOP—Gaga’s weakest album—while trashing Chromatica, a beautifully produced record

I think that Chromatica was made with GP approval in mind. However MAYHEM is unhinged and crazy just like it's supposed to be :abra:

In a way, they're opposite sisters maybe

I didn't say sister, I said other half... like a story. Mayhem wouldn't exist without Gaga's introspection on herself after doing Chromatica.

I've beaten this horse to death tbh. Don't feel like ranting about all the reasons why Chromatica doesn't do it for me but let's just say the whole thing, from the production to the lyricism, feels flat and uninspired. Especially when stood next to her other work.

ARTPOP was messy but it at least felt like it had a soul and some weight to it, both spiritually and sonically

I know. I added the sister part. :ororomunroe:

But agree on the story part :kara:

Horny Chicken

Chromatica is the least gritty Gaga album and some people are not here for that kind of sound but it’s not bad at all. Safe≠ bad
