MEM 3,037
When it started I thought aw, this is cute. The Sonny & Cher vibes? Excellent. I was sitting there, so ready for California Dreamin’ to blend into Die With A Smile. Two minutes later, it was over. I was like I’m not trying to be insensitive to the devastation LA has been through. I just want an official, concrete, justifiable reason as to why this was decided. Why they couldn’t sing their Grammy-winning hit on the biggest night in music. We can speculate to the end of the earth but what is the REAL REASON? Everyone got to perform their nominated song… we even WON THE GRAMMY and didn’t perform it… make it make SENSE. Why, of all the artists sitting there with nothing to do, we had to be the ones subjected to a tribute. Two legendary artists with the best collaboration in years, with a timeless love song literally sitting at #1 on the charts, given a two minute slot to do a last minute cover. They killed it of course, but the more I watch it, it seems random and rushed. Apparently there was even a teleprompter with the lyrics. Neither of them played instruments… it was like why give them airtime if you’re just going to waste them? Like not even a second appearance in the Quincy Jones tribute? Don’t come to me with it has “die” in the title, and “if the world was ending” is inappropriate in these times. Oh, but Billie Eilish can sing about graves and caskets? Does context mean anything anymore? The song is not political… it’s a conversation between two people holding onto each other for hope and safety and comfort. “I wanna be next to you…I wanna hold you just for a while, and die with a smile” literally speaks to the fact that even if we lose everything, we have each other. Love above everything. That is what LA needs to hear right now. That is what the entire GP expected to hear. People are going to be catching up on the awards for the rest of the week and be like??? Where is the DWAS performance…? I am mad that we didn’t get the DWAS Live at the GRAMMYS moment we deserved and will forever be salty that it never got an official televised performance, because this is essentially the end of DWAS era, and all we have to live with are a music video plus two fan-recorded and one professionally shot (but not great) concert performances Lady Mars deserved better Edited 5 hours ago by MEM 3 4
ryansamonster 1,555
I think they’re just ready to move on from it. They’ve both released 2 songs since and Gaga is seemingly headed into Mayhem full force dark vibes. Abracadabra got the prime promo spot, Gaga’s done with DWAS. 7

River 107,579
I mean it’s either to sing another song or make DWAS more LA fire oriented which would become something even kore inappropriate like this: If LA was burning I want to burn it with you if your mortgage is not over but your house on earth went through i wanna smoke you just for a while and burn with a smile if LA was burning I want to burn it with you His fart felt like a kiss 1
faysalaaa 3,230
I dont think any of us even wanted DWAS, we wanted an actual single from the album to be performed. She also could have performed her own single, and then did the California tribute, alot of artists did that in the past. And considering Disease did not go anywhere without promo, this was the perfect opportunity to promote. But we got a new single and music video, and its the best thing shes put out in years, so I wont complain at all. Bronco 7,381
Who's we? I felt like everyone was bored of DWAS. Hell look at the meltdowns when DWAS got tagged to Mayhem lol 5

littlepotter 74,611
Honestly 100% captures why it made me sooooo frustrated. We always have to sit back and watch her do a tribute while everyone sings their songs or promote their music like back in 2020. It's really not insensitive the context is very obvious chaeri pls 3
Vengaboy 1,215
I think it's silly if they decided not to perform it because of the fires, which I think is obvious they did. This would've been the perfect wrap up for DWAS before she goes into Mayhem mode. Wasted opportunity unfortunately. But hey, at least they got a Grammy!
Sneaky Oliver 21,507
I think it would be a little inappropriate to sing about dying since this year’s Grammy was kind of a fundraiser also by not performing DWAS, she made sure all the media outlets would highlight Abracadabra video instead 2
clownery 4,386
You guys hate it, but it's such a smart move to avoid bad press, as it would be insensitive to sing a song titled "Die with a Smile" also Abracadabra lyrics have "the floor is on fire" which is worse, furthermore I feel it would have overshadowed Gaga's new single. I am a full DWAS stan I've followed its whole evolution as a major pop anthem but, after almost half a year, it's time to let it go 1
Starmie25 14,806
As a fan of The Mamas and Papas I really enjoyed it. Part of me also thinks they didn't want DWAS overshadowing the "Abracadabra" release.
