Lady Gaga on why she named her new album MAYHEM:

“The album was called MAYHEM to memorialize a piece of me and a piece of life that is not always easy to accept. It was hard at first to name the album MAYHEM because I so much don't want that feeling to be real. I am also a hopeful person. I’m also somebody that is a dreamer, but what I think I ultimately arrived at is; it’s all of the fractures of who we are and the fractures in the world and the mayhem of that brokenness that ultimately teaches us the power of joy, and dancing and crying and laughing and listening to music and holding your friends and your family and repeat! This album is fun and I enjoyed the contrast of a fun album that’s also called MAYHEM.”

Love that. Pain teaches us to appreciate the moments that bring us joy.

I feel like that's something most people can relate to

Isn't this basically Chromatica? Dancing through the pain / making something light out of darkness and past pain? The only difference is MAYHEM is rooted in reality (despite trying to escape from it through dance), whilst Chromatica is literally escaping reality by dancing on a made-up planet.

I agree with this. But she does say now that she’s accepting the chaos within, so maybe that’s why it’s rooted in reality while in Chromatica, she was trying to escape it through the planet

I like that idea. I interpret a bit differently and rather than dancing through the pain, she ha snow accepted that life‘s struggles are an integral part to life and to being able to feel

joy. It’s not about overcoming pain to feel joy and be Ok again, but to take the challenges head on and feel and be alive. Most memorable quote:

“What does it feel like to thrive and not just be surviving all the time?“

I mean all of Gaga's pop discography is an exploration of self. But Chromatica is about getting through and past the pain. Mayhem seems about understanding it and how it has changed you, and eventually embracing how it's made you better. To me Chromatica is an album about feelings, and Mayhem will be an album about character.

I think that’s the difference: Chromatica is a way of escaping and rationalizing life through different lenses, Mayhem is about actually facing the past and the reality

That's how I interpreted it. Chromatica is rooted in the present and Mayhem is more a reflection of her life until now and facing hard truths rather than choosing pretty lies

Chromatica was very escapist in a survival mode way, while Mayhem seems to be about embracing being f***** up as a genuine part of (her)yourself. Not happy to say I can relate to both of those feelings :traumatica:

Dancing in a swirl / Of golden memories / The loveliest lies of all.

Chromatica was a process full of color using dancefloor for healing…now Mayhem is about acepting all your emotions, inner chaos and deal with it in a positive way and keep forward into whats next.

Chromatica is escapism for her

I think Mayhem is acceptance for her
