The MAGA world has zeroed in on Selena Gomez as its newest public enemy.

Gomez, 32, broke down in a since-deleted Instagram story where she shared her disgust with Donald Trump’s mass deportation plans and promised to “try everything” she can to help those impacted. 

“All my people are getting attacked,” she said while sobbing. “The children. I don’t understand. I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

Gomez appeared to address the outrage in a follow-up post to her story where she wrote over a black screen, “Apparently it’s not OK to show empathy for people.”

Gomez revealed previously her grandparents crossed into the U.S. illegally in the 1970s and later became citizens. She has been a strong advocate for the immigrant community and helped promote the 2019 Netflix series Living Undocumented.

I saw the video on IG, and mexicans were DRAGGING her . I had no idea she was so heavily disliked by the mexican community, I'm guessing that messy film really rubbed them the wrong way . 

I will say though, I do find it crazy that in this situation, where people are legitimately fearing for their future, she manages to make it about herself and be the victim 💀. Girl, if you shared a video because you supposedly care, own it. 

Her deleting it, and then being passive aggressive on her stories makes it seem like she's just upset she's not getting praised for it . Bestie, it's not about yo, OMG

i saw the video and it was heartbreaking, the fact she needed to delete it because of "maga backlash" it's WILD...  people have gone mad  And they feel emboldened, I really have no clue where this will end up and I'm not looking forward to find out...

I saw the video reposted by a stan account on IG, and it was largely mexican people dragging her. At least on that one post, it wasn't Trump supporters at all, it was mexican people who saw her gesture as performative/pour la galerie. 

Lots of comments both in spanish and english, calling her ridiculous, etc, so... . I don't think she's in a good spot right now with the mexican community because of that new film she made. At least that's the impression I got by readibg the comments. I'm from Argentina, I personally couldn't care less about the way she presents, in regards of her ancestry. But based on what I saw, it was very much not "MAGA" people dragging her, it was mexicans.

Oo, thanks for the context! I just saw the deleted video without any comments, I'm just going over what the article says, and it mentions maga, which isn't too hard to believe at face value tbh.

For what's worth, her sadness and despair seemed genuine for me at least.

Your FYP is very much tailored to you lol. MAGA is definitely going after her. I don’t doubt that there are still grumblings among Mexicans about her performance in that weird movie, but everything I’ve seen is a bunch of old white guys on Twitter stumbling over themselves to add their two cents and yell about Laken Reilly as if home grown Americans don’t rape and murder in overwhelming numbers.
