MR was a major aspect of reparing Gagas image though. Something that started with C2C and Oscars Sound of Music but MR was the more mainstream hit part of it

 

It may not have been a super smash but id say it was major in giving Gaga another chance at career resurgence. One thing that crosses my mind is would she even have gotten a shot at ASIB (and in turn shallow by default) without career repair? Maybe not

True but she signed for ASIB before Joanne was even released, so MR isn’t the reason why Shallow was recorded.

It was also her first stadium tour, first full pop album since artrop too.

SL and ROM also did well, cept the USA. and that album gave us 911 movie.

Nope. There was one week during Christmas 2024 when DWAS was #17 I guess. But it was the only week from its current 46-weeks run on Hot 100; the rest was placed in the top 10.

I'm frustrated how I feel like DWAS falling on charts and streams is a faillure when the song is a certified global smash one of biggest hits of all time will be a classic in 50 years.

Fair enough about Shallow, I didnt know she signed for ASIB before MR & Joanne

 

But even so, I stand by the fact that I think it played a major role in completing Gagas image repair

 

The GP was not only sick and tired of her but stopped taking her seriously, called her too weird and desperate for attention.

 

Oscars, C2C and then Joanne (primarily with MR) showed GP she was capable of talent and making music without having to be extreme. That in iself got her a lot of attention and got her respect again and ppl to take her seriously again

 

Thats why when MR was being promoted and doing only so-so in charts I kept saying its ok, it wasnt about the smash hit in that moment, it was about showing a different side of Gaga that long term would help her career

 

This is what Katy Perry never did, evolve or show a truly different side of her, and she ended up paying for it

Her biggest YouTube debuts and huge first week streams and sales. It would've been a huge era without pandemic... Just too many missed opportunities
