Since peaks dont take into account longevity a peak has never been a relibale measure of commulative success Its not exclusive to streaming era. There moderate hits like 15 years ago (Hold it agaisnt me by Britney for example that went #1) when sales still made a bigger portion of charts and you had the exact same issue. If sales were front loaded due to hype or a big week performance or something that gave you a strong week and thus a strong peak Its nothing new.
