Streaming, in killing the "many singles from an album" strategy, has sorta resurrected the album strategy. We've seen this over and over the last few years where there is one really big single that overshadows any other singles that come after but the album itself does well.

Billie's latest album (Birds of a Feather), Harry Styles (As It Was), Bad Bunny (DtMF), SZA (Kill Bill), Beyonce (Texas Hold 'Em), Taylor Swift (Fortnight), Olivia Rodrigo (Vampire), etc. all fit this trend. One hit, several less successful singles, but with an album that serves longevity – albums which, pre-streaming, you would've expected to yield a few more Top 10s on the Hot 100. The only artists who've really broken this trend over the last few years are the ones having a breakout moments (Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Dua Lipa, Taylor w/ Taylormania). 

Mayhem has one massive hit in DWAS and a promo hit in Abracadabra, both of which have had massive impacts on Gaga's catalog. Even if Abra is falling, there is clearly still huge interest in what Gaga is doing (9 songs doing over a million streams daily legit puts her in a league of her own compared to other pre-streaming artists; Taylor Swift, by comparison, has 2 songs doing over a million daily).

all that to say, I don't think Disease/Abra chart performance is indicative of how Mayhem as a whole will do. I think we may have a Brat situation on our hands where it's about the era, the album as a body of work, etc. rather than any one single doing exceptionally well (and tbh, I'd much rather have that than a viral hit alone). 

I agree, I said a similar thing a few days ago how Mayhem has the potential to have virality and cultural impact the way Brat had without having the most insanely succesful songs chart performance wise. I mean the nachos meme is now a Gaga thing, everybody is talking about recession pop & being super positive and receptive towards her as an artist and her impact. This kind of virality is so rare I hope her team capitalize on it dammit.

It seems you guys kinda underestimate how big Abra is.

And just to let you know, I can’t escape it on Tiktok. It’s very viral atm. And it’s not because of my algorithm, because I see regular videos that is not in my interest that uses the sound. 200k is A LOT for a 2 week old song.

It will keep on cooking, and bookmark me that it will peak AT LEAST in top 5 on release week.

You guys are being pessismistic. I think She can go up to 350 k units. Interscope and her team Better come up with some fun pop up stores and a big launch alla artrave. Or something completely knew. 

Chromatica had tour bundles and without those it would've had less than 200k for sure, because it got "only" 69k SEA, dunno how much pure she could pull off now, but anything above 200k is crazy  SEA probably max 100k, and I'm talking about US only ofc.

It's interesting how that apparently is not translating into streams...

It's definitely doing great and a lot of people know the song but the streams don't show that

This whole "solo" vs "collab" hits annoy the heck out of me. It's not like Gaga jumped into a hot song like Perfect just to get a #1 hit. All her hit collabs are legitimately her own songs.
