MAYHEM: The Official Discussion Thread (Act II) It’s MAYHEM in here 👹

Listened a few more times, some songs are really great. Some songs tho, to me at least, lyrically are so basic. I love Garden of Eden but she could've opened up a Bible and gotten more clever inspiration. It's just a hook up song. Not bad but then you have HBDUWM and that was not it in any way.

Blade of Grass and The Beast, are so well written. Wow. Vanish Into You as well. I love them instantly.

Having fun is great. She definitely had fun making this. But you can have fun and use less basic words too. HML is fun but clever. HBDUWM is just bad.

OMG I love this album so much already!! Probably my favourite one since TFM and maybe even EVER!! :messga:

To me it really sounds like the mature twin sister of The Fame.

It kinda reminds of Chromatics (no not the album, the band!) They have all dark, synth-pop themed songs that are actually quite lighthearted and fun to listen to.

My absolute favourites are Blade of Grass (I could hear Keane singing it) and ZombieBoy.

My online skip is How bad do you want me. That one's sticking out like a sore thumb.

I’m unsure how I feel yet. It needs to ferment a bit. The first half of the album >>> the second half for me right now.

loving so much how a lot of these songs are The Fame era demos coded (Retro Physical, Disco Heaven, Private Audition, Retro Dance Freak, Fancy Pants, Filthy Pop, etc. well technically RDF and DH are released as bonus tracks on various international versions. I think Disco Heaven is now part of TFM deluxe on streaming world wide). The cadence in her vocals in Garden of Eden and Zombieboy in particular.

lots of new wave influences. Bowie, MJ, and Prince too. The singles and aesthetics of the album as a whole are very misleading. Kind of wish there was more Perfect Celebrity vibes. More grit.

I was expecting there to be more dark, hard hitting dance anthem vibes on the album as a whole. They exist, they’re there, but in terms of promo and the singles, it is not as advertised. Some songs kind of, melt into the next (Vanish, LoveDrug, How Bad, Don’t Call) in not a way that I enjoy as of right now. Less so Vanish because of where it’s located in the tracklist (killah and Zombieboy give a reprieve sonically). Vanish and LoveDrug I love A LOT, but when listening to the full project, there’s just something off as I’m moving through it. I am unsure it’s the production or my lack of interest in the vibes these tracks present. Possibly both. Not bad songs either, just not for me right now.

killah is the most shocking and for me, the most disappointing after my own anticipations and hypes over the Gesaffelstein feature. I don’t hate it, but it will take me time to digest it. Loving how Bowie it sounds, I will say this.

so far after listening the past four hours, my top five is:

Perfect Celebrity

Zombieboy

Shadow of A Man

Vanish Into You (although difficult lyrically to listen to)

Abracadabra and Disease would be tied here.

It’s very clear to me that, I mean she’s already said this in promo interviews, this album was birthed through healing and returning to what she was inspired by in the Lower East Side. The location for Zane Lowe makes even more sense after listening. Hearing all of these glam, funk, and new wave influences throughout is genuinely crazy to hear in 2025 coming from Gaga in this way.

Cheeky she must have been inspired by Eras with How Bad :teehee: insane 1989/ Reputation Taylor influence on that song.

I’m excited for more visuals. What the upcoming performances will be like. I am curious if I will feel more connected to some of these songs after watching performances/ more music videos, if we get any.

I can’t believe we have another Gaga release  it’s very exciting

I’ve streamed it on Apple Music twice, and moved onto other new releases. Really loving BANKS’ new album

I kinda see why you won’t like Mayhem if you like BANK’s electro pop style.

Her songs are kinda shallow for my taste

Having listened to it more, this is such a great album but she really did a huge disservice by branding this as a dark pop sound that was a return to her old work. Could have probably used a few more expectation management meetings.

Also, HBDYWM should have been replaced by Frankenstein :sis:

I finally know what song Zombieboy reminds me of 😭 I knew it reminded me of a swifter commercial :ladyhaha:

It’s “Fresh by Kool & Gang” the beat during the chorus sounds so similar!

I mean, she said many times the album is a whole collection of different genres, not just dark pop.

First time noticing this on Music after having bought the album from iTunes but all of the tracks data shows as x out of 13. And then DWAS in the end is track 14 out of empty.

Not a last minute addition at all. :derpga:
