Were the majority of them dance songs? Trying to gauge what the energy will be at the listening party im going to later

they're not electronic dance music 4 to the floor like abracadabra but you can dance to them all, it's just more groove-y "acoustic" music music, not dancefloor

What song would you make the new single guys?

I'd release Perfect Celebrity next.

Vanish Into You in May/June as a Summer single (its got Aperol Spritz in the sun vibes)

Then drop Don't Call Tonight as an Autumn single

Ok I’ve listened and here’s my first initial thoughts.

SPOILER- I think it’s her best album since Born This Way and could easily become my favourite album of hers. To me it’s potentially her actual Magnum Opus.

_____________

Garden of Eden - 9/10

A classic Gaga song, we often overuse the term “old Gaga” but this is straight out of her old school TF days with a bit of an update- it feels like her work with DarkChild but with a massive injection of confidence. If it isn’t a single they’re actually insane because it’s a true return to form where the lyrics are simple, the message is relatable and every verse sounds like a hook. The only thing that keeps it from a 10 is the lack of a good bridge. If it had that leaked bridge “it’s only for the weekend…” it’d have easily been a 10. The outro is SICKENING and so 2008/9 coded. But still what a 1-2-3 punch run after Disease and Abra.

Killah - 8/10

I was shocked by this one, it’s SOOO Bowie like you can feel the energy of Young Americans era Bowie, which is clearly Gaga’s favourite era of him. From the vocals to the production (although surprisingly with Gesaffelstein featuring the production isn’t as hard as I expected tbh- although I love the sudden beat switch up and the scream in the bridge it’s insane). It’s not my favourite song but god I love the groove and how both 70s and 90s it feels at the same time, damn is it a departure from a typical Gaga sound in a good way- it feels very much like “live” Gaga finally made her way into a studio pop track.

Zombieboy - 10/10

NOW THIS IS THE GAGA IVE WANTED SINCE LIKE 2015.

It’s fully disco like old school style, it’s very Michael Jackson, Chic, Bowie and a pinch of “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell. Love the “shouty” intro “Put your paws all over me you Zombieboy!” and progression. I love this one a lot. She wasn’t lying when she said when you think you know where the album is going it shifts; I can feel the influences from the artists that she loves all over this and Killah. I feel like I won with this one.

Perfect Celebrity - 10/10

This one is off the charts amazing, it’s amazing in every aspect it’s very Hole and 90s Grunge, with a sort of almost Pretty Reckless vibe. It’s a true Gaga rock song. The snippet she played in Paris is literally the last few seconds of the song. It feels like the perfect blend of real instrumentation and electronic, Andrew and GF need to work with her forever because this is some of the best music she’s ever made. Period. There’s so many self references including a Princess Die reference.

Vanish Into You - 9/10

The lyrics she teased “it was cold in the summertime” are from this, once again the Bowie and Prince influence is in full force. It’s once again a return to form with a modern twist her vocals remind me of The Fame Monster era and the melody in the chorus is the same as the “oh oh oh’s” from the Bad Romance post chorus.

Don’t Call Tonight - 8/10

Funk and Disco are permeating from this song, which once again has me fully pulled in, this is the music I wanted from LG5 all those years ago. It feels very Stevie and Bowie influenced.

The bridge is straight out of a  Daft Punk record, vocoder included. The chorus feels very 80s Madonna in the best way possible.

The only negatives is it feels very repetitive in a long space of time.

LoveDrug - 7/10

80s synth pop, it feels very Love Me Right from Chromatica. But more upbeat, it’s probably my least favourite just because it feels like a Katy Perry or CRJ album track from 2012. Still love it though it’s very summery and it’ll probably grow on me.

How Bad Do U Want Me - 7/10

80s Synth Pop again, sounds like it could be a Taylor Swift track, it’s very cutesy and feels very summery again. But it feels like very much like this would do well with Taylor Swift fans. The chorus is fully reminiscent of a 1989 song. Even at points vocally she sounds like Taylor melody wise. Not for me but can totally see it growing on me again.

Shadow of a Man - 10/10

The intro is the bit she previewed from the Chromatica Ball film. It’s once again in my territory it’s funk, it’s disco and it’s epic and feminist. Scheiße’s disco grown up sister. If Scheiße is a song about anger then this song is about acceptance of your power. I’m obsessed with this.

The Beast - 8/10

Feels epic, it has a very Phil Collins feeling to the melody and production. You can hear her influences coming through. Feels like a grown up The Fame Monster track. The production is crazy good and minimal.

Blade of Grass - 8/10

It’s a very dark melody but hopeful. I get the gothic dreams comparison. It feels very Shallow mixed with Angel Down as her ballads go. It feels confessional and beautiful. I love it as ballads go, it’s better than DWAS for me. The melody strangely reminds me of “Feel This Moment” by Xtina and Pitbull at points lol. Love the key change too.

Disease - 8/10

Abra - 10/10

DWAS - 7/10

Standouts: GOE, ZB, PC, SOAM

Least Faves: HBDUWM, LD

SONGS THAT SHOULD BE SINGLES:

GOE, PC, HBDUWM

Blade Of Grass is hauntingly beautiful, one of her best ballads for sure.

Feels like a wedding song for her and Michael, also ties nicely into DWAS and the album ends on a hopeful note. :enigma:

My notes listening for the first time:

- It's a very solid album; it's not going directly to the top to me cause Chromatica's sound is more like my personal taste but wow. Lady Gaga you'll always be famous.

- Best song is definitely Abracadabra, congratulations Gaga, after all these years since Marry the Night, you finally made the best song on the album a single!

- The standouts for me, besides Abra and Disease are: Vanish Into You, Perfect Celebrity, Killa (specially the bridge onwards), Zombieboy, The Beast

- SkipDrug, How Bad Do You Want to Skip and Don't Fill Tonight (they are good but hmmm)

- I'm gonna need more time with Blade of Grass.

- I don't agree with people saying that Disease and Abra don't sound like the rest.

- I'm so glad I ended up liking Garden of Eden, I wasn't feeling the snippet at all but I stand corrected

I didn't listened to Mayhem yet, I'm still waiting. But I have a bit the same feeling with Abra when at the "Abracadabra amor-oh-na-na". It's so 80s Miami coded, it's probably the Italo-disco influences. And then there's goth rock vibes with the SatB interpolations. Like there's sooo many influences on this song. :enigma:

I'm here to take a break from university homeworks :/
