SZA is under RCA. their artists usually do not have physical copies so they don't have to turn in the album in advance and can work on it until the last minute.

I'm not an expert here, but doing things "at the last minute" is not necessarily a sign of unprofessionalism, it just depends on the way her team works or standards of the industry. For example, major animated movies like Disney ones usually reserve around 3/4 of their production time to the story, screenplay, and voice acting, while the animation itself usually starts being made in the last few months before the premiere.
