Yes I agree. Chinese imperialism is bad. I was considered moving to China because of their progressive movement but the Taiwan invasion is what’s preventing me. That's been facilitated by *every* social media platform & amplified by Musk & Zuck on FB/X/IG. And this has been an issue since before TikTok even took off at the rate it did during the pandemic. Like if you create a new social media account, on any platform using a fresh device, the algorithim will automatically start drip feeding right wing content to you. Like it wasn't TikTok that was amplyifing false information in 2016. It wasn't TikTok that was farming users for data and then selling it to Political advertisers pushing far-right candidates & causes in the UK and US. And beyond the sophisticated manipulation of all social media platforms by the right wing, it's equally coupled with the completely ineffective and just down right useless approach to social media platforms of the left & center. The left & the centrists just ignored the potential of social media for way too long and failed to come up with effective challenges to the growth the Alt-Right from reddit & 4chan which were essentially test sites for what right wing politics pushed out onto Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube & TikTok. Facebook & Instagram are particularly bad for it atm. In the last 6 months, Meta has been heavily pushing all those random pages that are essentially Turning Point USA/UK meme bots. Agree with you to be fair, I think I'm just over social media in general since it changed from being posting what I'm having for dinner/my new fav song on YouTube and spying on friends lives. What about Hawaiian people? They were stripped of their land by rich white Americans who practically conquered it overnight. Now their culture is reduced to a tourism fetish. What about Puerto Rico? They're not even allowed to vote on national elections, they're discriminated in the mainland everyday. So before telling me about what Taiwanese people think, like you know everything, maybe take a look at your own backyard for once and stop acting entitled about what other countries should do or how they should behave. Learn a little bit more about the Taiwan issue, about China's policies toward it, about Taiwan's official position on the matter, about the history of China-Japan relations. Seek truth from facts.
