If she wants a potential hit, she needs another ARUTW, DWAS for ballads or sonically like JD or PF if we want her to succeed with a pop track. What we know is that GP is always here for Gaga. she just needs the right song. luna’s advocate
MonsterofFame 1,785
I don’t care whether Gaga has a hit as a collab or not. My issue with DWAS is that lyrically and sonically it sounds like a Bruno Mars song. It is a Bruno Mars song at its core. I want a song with Gaga’s DNA to chart well again. She deserves this #1 as much as Bruno, but it doesn’t give me much confidence to say that Gaga’s popularity in mainstream pop is safely back yet. gagzus 15,592
I agree except for Shallow. Bradley had a big hand in it being big same for the movie. The selling point of the campaign for both an Oscar and selling tickets to the movie (thus also ppl falling in love with the song and buying it) was the whole narrative of “their acting is so good they MUST actually be in love irl” Something that was heavily rumoured (even on this forum) back in 2018/19, to the point there were rumours his wife was gonna leave him bc he and Gaga had a “Brad and Angelina” situation filming the movie. Up until Gaga finally publicly debunked it AFTER she won the Oscar (they even played into it during the performance). id argue the whole world wanted them to get together after seeing ASIB. Myself included tbh. THAT was what propelled both Shallow and the movie so much. Edited December 31, 2024 by gagzus

Thats why I’m still bitter that Disease isn’t the one getting all this attention, DWAS feels like a Bruno song with Gaga attached to it for me. Where as Disease sonically, visually, melodically EVERYTHING- is the closest we’ve gotten to music from her TFM days that this forum has been begging for since 2014.

Expand True, but this fanbase has to accept that if she releases songs like these, she won't be successful with it. This genre had its time when it was cool. The GP has got over the weird Gaga now. Bloody Mary's re-emergence was just a once in a blue moon. If Gaga wants success, she has to take projects like Shallow, ARUTW, DWAS now and then to further enrich her career. We can't call these songs as "not Gagasque" since she has already dwelled into this genre as many times as Dark pop. We can't call these songs as "not Gagasque" since she has already dwelled into this genre as many times as Dark pop. Expand I’d argue she could easily be successful with this type of music again (maybe not like reaching #1 success but deffo top 10) if she brought back all the elements that made her old work successful. All she needs is catchy melodies, cinematic irreverent visuals, and massive performances again. But she’s nearly middle aged, prefers piano performances and protects her physical and health (as she should). She also basically denounced her old self saying it wasn’t entirely authentic, which kinda hurts as a long time fan that used to love when she PREACHED that’s who she was despite criticism. I think often people forget she’s like nearly 40 and not relatable to young people now. Sure she has young fans still but because they didn’t live through her peak like people my age (30s) did they often crave her going back to that so they can experience it, and she just cannot get back to that. She doesn’t act young, she doesn’t look young, she doesn’t write music for young people; she’s very much like Adele in the sense she’s making music FOR people in their 30s and onward. And look at Katy who is still trying to do that, she gets crucified. And god help when she’s Madonna’s age, Madonna hasn’t had proper success since the late 2000s because of people thinking she needs to “act her age”. TLDR; I prefer her leaning into a more mature version of her old sound, instead of it being synths replicating rock n roll sounds, it’s actual rock n roll sounds and elements. 1

chathonnete 577
We can't deny that Gaga's highest charting songs were collabs since 2017, it's just a fact. However, Gaga doesn't own the success to her collaborators but to the magic she creates with them and her own power. I don't think Shallow, ROM and DWAS would be smash hits if there were collaborations with other artists than Gaga, also Gaga is CLEARLY the lead in these songs, except probably DWAS. At the end of the day we don't ****ing care as long as she keeps releasing solo music which she does

Only the dvmb stans on twitter who don't want to give Gaga credit for anything. But if it wasn't for the movie, the song would never go #1, we can't ignore the fact that a smash hit movie is probably the best promo a song can get Expand Well yes but Gaga was a big reason why the movie was huge, which in turn helped the song smash. But I think Bradley being on the song dilutes Gaga which makes it more palatable for the GP. Gaga can be "too Gaga" for the GP so sometimes if you steer her Into a direction or duet with her, it makes her easier on the GP ears.
Conqueror 14
I'd like Gaga to have 2 solo hits on this album, aside from collabs with The Weeknd and Chappel. 1. Die With A Smile (Bruno) 2. Disease 3. ? with The Weeknd 4. Solo 5. Chappel 6. Solo Edited January 1 by Conqueror
