A hit song will carry you further than a moderately performing album, so I don't really agree on a commercial perspective

But nowadays albums without many smash hits aren't doing good numbers... :bear:

But this is how stan world is disconnected from reality. I doubt anyone from Gaga’s team or Interscope look or care(d) what “numbers” Joanne or Chromatica got/get on Spotify every day, for example. The short/long term revenue from streaming is just not worth that time-consuming pettiness.

Those albums enabled Gaga to not just ride on her commercial peak (where she collected hit singles easily), but build on it with 2 well attended, highly profitable global tours. The imagery, sounds, and album tracks allowed that to happen and kept her relevant, despite only 1 well-performing single from each.

That would not have been the case had she been merely releasing a string of singles, regardless of commercial success.

Pettiness what are you on about. Yes her team and Interscope follow what numbers the songs from both albums and singles do on streaming, radio. Not everything Is about direct revenue.

it not about doing big numbers. the point is that the artists should build their careers on albums to have a fanbase that is interested in the entire output because having a small fan base is better than having hits in the long run.
Jack Antonoff's band never had any song charting on the Hot 100 but they still can tour. their albums have not reached the top 10, but all of them have been in the top 70 with no hit songs.
On the other hand, there is, for example, Bebe Rexha - she has multiple hits with billions of streams, but still struggles to sell tickets, her last album couldn't even reach the top 100 despite including “I'm Good (Blue)”
