It was very stripped back and raw. Interscope didn't like this direction, which is why BloodPop was brought in to rework some of the material and make it more commercial. I would’ve LOVED to hear those acoustic/singer-songwriter type songs they made together. When Interscope doesn’t meddle and water down her art with “modern” pop production. I want the rawness to shine through. I feel like when we get Gaga at her most raw, with analog instruments only, that’s when we get the best music from her imo. THAT would have been her Ray of Light and magnum opus.
monketsharona 73,220
Well okay she may have no full album at the time but let's not forget she had 8 RedOne produced songs totally finished and one of those was planned to be released as lead single and performed at Grammy Award in 2016 before Bowie died. We also know she worked with Nile, DJWS, Elton, Diane and Moroder on new stuff. The Joanne music came once she started working with Mark early 2016. Gaga confirmed Joanne was the first track written specifically for this album. Angel Down a rework of a worktape from the RedOne sessions. So yeah she could rework some of the finished products from this period if she still click of course

Her original Grammy performance was between being a tribute to Whitney Houston or Beck before they settled on Bowie after he passed. But the point is it was always going to be a tribute. The Giorgio Moroder sessions also never happened; he got sick and had to cancel, and he said Gaga never followed up. And, again, RedOne himself said that their songs together were a mix of their classic Fame Monster style and more acoustic stuff (like the "Angel Down" worktape) that "she wanted to do". Elton also confirmed this as well when he said the songs he had heard sounded like "Bad Romance", with others reminding him of "You & I" and Carole King's Tapestry album. Once again, Gaga was always experimenting with the exact same singer/songwriter direction that Joanne ended up being. I think people would have taken Joanne a lot more seriously as an album if Gaga had committed to the direction she wanted to take instead of compromising on a pop hybrid sound to appease the label and fans. It wasn't as drastic of a change or as much of a creative risk as it was being framed to be.
