Why is Gaga "promo sensitive"

I understand peoples frustrations that the lead single didn't get a ton of promo like most lead singles normally do, but given the timeline and lack of physical release, it would seem that Disease was a promo single meant to have the fanbase hold space until 2025. The November/December holiday gap is real and would have upended any promo people are "missing" this year anyway. Not that their was much to go on anyway, all the award shows are in the Spring.

Some of y'all in this thread acting as if Gaga is an underground artist. Every artist has flop eras and successful eras.

Every household name goes through this. Every one. Beyonce has had flop singles. Taylor Swift has had flop singles. Ariana Grande has had flop singles.

Every Gaga album debuts with hundreds of thousands of sales. I think we notice Gaga's flops more than we notice other artists' flops.

This is such a stupid question. Every artist is promo sensitive unless a song magically connect to the GP right away like DWAS, or if one is at their peak, like Taylor Swift right now, or if the quality of a song is very bad, like Women's World.

She needs to prove herself over and over for the GP to give her her flowers

I agree. I know it sounds like a coping excuse, but I truly believe this was intended as a buzz single for the fans and to capitalize on joker/Halloween.

She knew she had to give us SOMETHING in 2024 or there would have been nuclear meltdowns :ladyhaha:

Also she is "too gay" for many mainstream people. Many straight people don't even listen to her music unless it's a ballad.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

Pretty sure it boils down to the backlash/self sabotage of the ARTPOP era. Even during Joanne she didn’t promote things quite like she used to. She promoted Million Reason because it was profitable for the label.

A lot of the past-era promo was upended by impossible to predict situations. Covid and Chromatica are the last massive example of this. ARTPOP was delayed by her sudden hip complications & then massive plans (like the ARTPOP app) fizzled out after multiple setbacks like the sudden change of management. Joanne was just more laid-back in general, but she did do a lot of performances and such.

tl;dr - Plan meets immovable force. (x3)

They’re not invested in her anymore

ummmmmmmmmmmmm they absolutely are, considering she's an artist who can sell out STADIUMS and gets booked for million dollar gigs at weddings

if they weren't invested in her, they would have let Atlantic handle DWAS but they knew it would be a hit

mother, what must i do?

cus she makes music for herself instead of for the charts

I would have said this a few months ago but the fact that they ditched the promo for her lead single in favor of the Bruno collab (which had a higher potential on the charts) proves we're both wrong :laughga:

I'd go as far as to say she only went back to "dark" pop 'cause that's what she thought would be successful. Harlequin seems more in line with the kind of music I think she wants to make and if she truly made the music she wanted to she'd probably never reach the top 10 again. I'd personally be fine with that, the woman is engaged to/married a billionaire, she's set for life financially, and even standing alone she's FAR from a struggling artist.

Spot on assessment.

It's obvious that her team decided to hold the album back after they saw the final cut of J:FAD in the late spring.

They then rolled out DWAS before the movie released to keep her mainstream image intact, and then dropped Disease as a promo lead after J:FAD released to sandwich the movie with another single (this time aimed at keeping her fanbase image intact).

Now they're using the christmas freeze to let the rest of the J:FAD press completely dry up.

Everyone loves to play little manager and speculate on what she should've/could've done with every release, but as far as I'm concerned Bobby navigated this year like a f*cking pro.

Yeah, professionally they're hitting all the right notes. No doubt Bobby's a fantastic manager that knows how to maximize her exposure and manage her opportunities efficiently.

But you also can't fault the fans for wanting to see her. It's a lead single and she still hasn't even performed it

This is my hottest take, and one I keep going back and forth on, but it totally feels like she's just phoning it in at this point. "Here, have a pop song. See you in February when I have an album to sell. Then a few months after that when I have tour tickets to sell. Stadium shows again so we can maximize profit per show. #BuyHausLabs #BuyNurtec"

If even I'm annoyed I can't imagine regular fans feeling great :laughga: I'd honestly live if she just retired from music entirely to focus on acting. It's clearly what she's most passionate about, you can see it in her eyes when she talks about her roles. Maybe some cute musical releases here and there, a residency or two to pay the bills, but otherwise dig her heels into film. I'd stan just as hard as I do now.

The Joanne era was really perfect. Great management, lots of appearances, it's the last time I got the sense that she was passionate about her music.
