Why is Gaga "promo sensitive"

We've seen the phrase "promo sensitive" applied to Gaga many times. We've seen songs like MR flounder until she promoted it. Why is she so promo sensitive? As opposed to someone like Kendrick or Beyonce or Taylor who can just put their stuff out there and people will check it out, Gaga seems to need her stuff forced onto people to click. Why?

Because I personally feel that Gaga isn’t a mainstream artist and only was one for a bit because it was literally a one once in a lifetime thing. She’s an alternative artist through and through. She takes risk , she’s not afraid to fail. I’ve always placed Gaga with artist like Bjork, Marylin Manson types but even better. Mainstream artist are palpable to the masses , alternative artist are not.

She isn’t safe or predicable, like Taylor and many other artists. You also can’t fit her into one box so I feel like everything she does appeals to different types of people, and this varies project to project. 
 

To put it simply, you don’t need to promote McDonalds, people will pretty much go no matter what. A Michelin Star restaurant though….

I understand peoples frustrations that the lead single didn't get a ton of promo like most lead singles normally do, but given the timeline and lack of physical release, it would seem that Disease was a promo single meant to have the fanbase hold space until 2025. The November/December holiday gap is real and would have upended any promo people are "missing" this year anyway. Not that their was much to go on anyway, all the award shows are in the Spring.

Those other artists just have a fanbase that spans greater demographics than Gaga I suppose

 

Alsoit seems the only side of her that appeals to larger audiences is her adult contemporary ballads lol

I agree. I know it sounds like a coping excuse, but I truly believe this was intended as a buzz single for the fans and to capitalize on joker/Halloween.

Well, all the artists you mentioned promote their asses off. Kendrick started that massive beef with Drake, Taylor masterfully uses the media to promote her relationship, and Beyonce makes sure her image is everywhere (Mufasa premiere, Super Bowl commercials, etc).

imo Gaga has a disjointed fan base and for some reason chooses to grow her older demographic by only collaborating with ancient artists. Older aged fans don’t have time to keep up with pop culture and because of social media, young fans are pop culture itself.

Other artists even though we don’t like them (Nicki Minaj, Drake, etc) collaborate with a ton of young artists to gets young fans.

At this point she's basically universally known but not universally liked. She tends to be very divisive and even people who don't know her well have some sort of opinion about her, pretty much the love it or hate it situation.

Yep, physical releases would have needed to be made prior to a release. If they intended it to be bigger, we would have already had single vinyls, cassettes, CDs, etc. They even intentionally interrupt the MV to play a snippet of another song, which is intentional to the plot (Zombie Bride, she's chasing/running over Gaga as the Zombie Bride) but it plays into the idea that its all just for buzz and promo surrounding the full album and not just Disease alone.

Those artists also have a reputation for trying to "steal" younger artists thunder to promote themselves or make them seem relevant. Gaga isn't trying to make music that will keep her relevant.

Spot on assessment.

It's obvious that her team decided to hold the album back after they saw the final cut of J:FAD in the late spring.

They then rolled out DWAS before the movie released to keep her mainstream image intact, and then dropped Disease as a promo lead after J:FAD released to sandwich the movie with another single (this time aimed at keeping her fanbase image intact).

Now they're using the christmas freeze to let the rest of the J:FAD press completely dry up.

Everyone loves to play little manager and speculate on what she should've/could've done with every release, but as far as I'm concerned Bobby navigated this year like a f*cking pro.
