I disagree with violence, but as many love to say that everything happens for a reason, I’ll add my two cents here saying these entities should take this as a reminder of how bad things can get, this is a glimpse of many things that can potentially unfold sooner or later, they’re playing risky games with society.

This whole situation is so messed up, from every angle. :wtf:

I find the overwhelmingly lighthearted, comical reaction from people online the worst. There’s nothing humorous about this whatsoever.

this is so much more nuanced and if people want to make jokes about the CEO, let them.  the CEO (and most of them for that matter) are people that do not care about the people they're abusing.

Health care in the United States is beyond fuc*ked and it's all about profits.

not saying what Luigi did was right ... but the response shows you just how disillusioned the whole country is and class consciousness is finally coming to a head.

You can argue your side without being rude.

You’re forgetting the fact that Brian’s company has probably gave hundreds of thousands of people slow and painful deaths, so “awful person” isn’t enough.

Once you remember that - it seems silly to let online reactions bother you

Anyway, let’s stream this brat fancam of Luigi 🙂↕️😌

I’m not defending what the murdered CEO did, I’m simply claiming I can’t personally justify - let alone support - the murder of a human being.

And the reason why the online reactions bug me is not so much the content so much as the frequency of it. Thousands of people (real accounts, before anyone starts about bots) being so weird, gross and insensitive about such a deranged and tragic situation is shocking to me. Heaven forbid.

I said the situation (meaning all of it: the murder, the prosecution of the murderer and the motives behind it and the general political tension surrounding healthcare in the US) was disturbing from every angle.

Accepting reality or avoiding reality? It's clearly the latter for most people thirsting over him. They're not looking at the facts at all. They're just blinded by how attractive he looks.

As with any mechanism, it can be taken to an extreme. Or in concert with others, like denial. An example of the combination would be "he can't have done it, he's too attractive"

But most people thirsting over him aren't going to that level, most are just saying "he's hot, and therefore, it was justifiable." When in reality, these same people probably already thought the murder was justifiable, and the fact the suspect is attractive is an extra layer to the absurdity in this situation.

I get that, but honestly this is a very gray area. I myself don’t like violence but we can’t simply expect people to behave a certain way when many are oppressed by these systems.

There’s many people and entities that I have no sympathy for regarding their death or downfall, am I gonna do it myself? No, but honestly :max:

I wouldn't have minded if the defence for him was rooted in real, nuanced analysis but just take a look at the other Luigi threads, you'll find that gays thirsting over him are only thinking with their d1cks and not their brains.

The comedy we've observed isn't even intelligent comedy, it's cheap.

I mean I’m sure youre describing some people, but I just think the reason why people are mostly memeing and not having nuanced discussions (which a lot of people definitely are) is because it’s been talked to death.

-

The nuanced defence exists though - and you can. start the convo here if you want!

Obviously killing a CEO won’t change the system and might even cause some people to dig in, and a human life lost like this is tragic, but I think this mass schadenfreude people across political lines are having is kind of beautiful.

It’s so rare to see americans bond like this.

Luigi was going through a lot of torment too. His back pain completely killed his sex life and drove him crazy. The useless healthcare system was no help, so he correctly ID’d the enemy here and I find it fascinating.

Most shooters whose life suck would target minorities in a walmart bc Fox News propaganda told them they’re the issue. Luigi’s mind is interesting bc he actually knew the issue is not w immigrants, but the rich and powerful dividing us up for no good reason.

It’s clear he had some right wing views too, so Im not gonna say he’s a fire breathing radical socialist, but yeah he’s such an interesting guy.

I hope this inspires change in 2028 for the better - I hope america never forgets this moment

To say people are only thirsting over him simply isn’t accurate. This story was already a sensation prior to his images being released. Many people online were already apathetic towards the CEO being murdered.

This killing has touched a nerve in many people because at the heart of it, it’s about an American that has become so fed up with the health care system that they felt the need to resort to violence in order to be heard. When you stretch a rubber band beyond its limit, it’s bound to break and snap back.  People resonate with the killer not because they support killing, but because they have their own horror stories when dealing with these health care providers.

The media and politicians want to scold us for laughing, making jokes, and siding with the killer. They fail to understand that people are tired of being exploited for capitalist gains. People are simply apathetic towards a man and a system that don’t care about them. Why, in turn, should they care about him?

His attractive appearance has only furthered the sensationalism. His appearance was not the catalyst of this whole situation.

Maybe the fact that I’m a pacifist makes me more sensitive about this topic than most, and I guess I’m sorry for that.

I don’t understand why my comment(s) in this thread however seem to warrant so much hostility and (it almost seems deliberate) misunderstanding … when all I said was that the entire ordeal was disturbing from every angle, including the murder itself and the prosecution of the murder, the inappropriate, widespread online response …. but also (and MAINLY) the motives behind it and the state of healthcare in the US with its respective political tension it brings.

Discussing matters like this on this site is honestly not so pleasant, and for this reason I barely engage in these types of topics. But the inescapable phenomenon of this situation today combined with all the awful social media content I’ve been exposed to made me want to share my thoughts. I’m kind of disappointed it ended up with people ganging up on me.

Murder is bad. We know. But we're in the same state of the world where people were making fancams of Dahmer and Bundy. I think it's an upgrade for them play around about a dude that killed a harmful CEO and potentially saved people's anesthesia medical coverage rather than the dudes that killed innocent gay men and women for funsies.

This is my Hannah Montana™️ lipgloss.

I just think the frequency of denied claims was too radical for too long, and had clearly traumatized millions of Americans. So online memes aren’t the hill I’d die on. It makes a lot of sense to me.

I know for a fact these people aren’t pro murder and realize this won’t really solve anything, so I’m not that stressed.

United Healthcare is uniquely evil too, with the highest level of denials, the biggest profits, and touting a purposely built faulty AI - that had a 90% denial rate - to fight against doctors and their expert recommendations.

Luigi’s friends are defending him.

One in an insta post said “he’s not a monster” and another friend said this:

"Luigi Mangione is probably the most google keyword today. But before all of this, for a while, it was also the only name whose facetime calls I would pick up. He was one of my absolute best, closest, most trusted friends. He was also the only person who, at lam on a work day, in this video, agreed to go to the store with drunk me, to look for mochi ice cream."

Oh I can shed some light on why your response is getting a lot of attention. Specifically, its your second line:

This comes off incredibly judgmental towards those that reacted to this situation with humor. You find all angles bad, but you find these people's reactions to be the worst? I can see that you might feel disturbed at this, but I imagine you meant this to be hyperbole. But regardless of intent, you expressed this view as a judgment. You basically asked "How dare you find this something to joke about?" And as a result, you're getting defenses for why jokes are made about it.
