We're still in the 'saying' phase, and everything he says is likely to be a lie. Six weeks to the inauguration. After that we find out what he's actually going to do.

Fingers crossed that the deportations turn out to be just talk. Tariffs is just kinda business as usual. There are tariffs in place already, and there is a mechanism to add more. I don't know what that mechanism is exactly, but you know what I mean, it's white-collar stuff, just sign the orders and it happens.

Deportations are another matter. That's not stopping people at the border. It's going into cities and towns and arresting large numbers (millions ?) of people and physically taking them away. There is no mechanism in place for that. Sure, you can say you're going to do it, and you might even have detailed plans for how you're going to do it, but the reality of it is an unknown. It would be very public, it would take a long time, and it would surely spark protest, violence, chaos. I'm hopeful that it won't happen, or that the effort will at least be short-lived.

Land is being offered to build "holding" camps and Operation W*tback provides a template for how to carry this out. Militarization of the policeforce and notable militias. Citywide doorknocking. Workplace raids. Private information seizure to create wanted lists. It was messy back then and it'll be even messier today.

I hope we collectively fight back if words become actions. These targeted people are a net positive to every community they're a part of.

Just googling Wetback and I see it was a very significant op, over a million moved back out of the country, albeit many of them fled back over the border in fear. It was 70 years ago though, different world, no mobile phones, no social media, I'd guess most people didn't even have tv. Anyway, If they go for it I hope it backfires bigtime.
