MACATL 1,099
15 hours ago, Jill said: I think you can understand what she means from the context in which it is written (that, and it may also be a promoted message). If that's your truth, it doesn't mean you're invalidating other people's perspectives. It simply means you believe that to be true. I think religion is very unnecessarily demonized. Of course, there are troubling aspects to it, like with everything, but people nowadays tend to view religion as a lesser way of experiencing life compared to what they consider "logical" or "scientific" conclusions. That perspective also seems like generalizing and celebrating "the only truth", which is a very religious perspective as well. Yes, it's okay to value science, but science and religion can coexist in many ways. And it's fine if you believe they cannot coexist, but that's your prerogative. It's not something objective. It cannot be objective because of its very nature. I know many religious scientists who are deeply devoted to human achievement and logic. Not saying anything to you specifically. But I think the topic is much more complex. Instead of viewing things as science (athiest) vs Christian/Religous (believer), what about those that are generally anti-religion but very much believers in our greater spiritual nature/reality. I’m definitely spiritual but believe that religion is man’s misguided attempt at explaining our existence in very limited human terms. It’s also been a way of scaring and controlling populations throughout history. I do believe anyone can believe as they wish, though, and we are all on our own spiritual (or non-spiritual) journeys and all is ok no matter. That said, my opinion is that there is a spiritual awakening underway, which is great because it will start to put to rest some of the religous fighting in the world. ✌️

RichAssPiss 4,725
Hi loves, Yes, queer people CAN be turned off by Christianity. Christianity and denominations within have persecuted us for decades. And continues to advocate against queer and trans lives. Christian nationalism is a major threat to U.S. democracy. The majority conservative and Christianity alligned Supreme Court is literally amid deliberations to decide whether states can ban trans Healthcare. This **** stinks. We're allowed to be mad when the pop divas who love our money shill for them. Have a nice rest of the week.

The alt-right appealing to the inherent paranoia within religious people to ruin all of our lives...just gross. The world would be a better place without religion and that's a cold hard fact I won't debate this 'cause I will offend people even further We should differentiate between fanaticism, believing in God, and potentially harmful beliefs. Many people find God in science, and there are numerous theories exploring this connection. It is also important to consider the liberatory power of religion, as opposed to its capacity to oppress. Science, like religion, isn't always purely factual. It is influenced by the State and its interests, as well as by private companies and their pursuit of profit. So the vision we have of science is not entirely objective either. And just as science can be both oppressive (a lot of science was used to achieve the Holocaust, for example) and liberating, religion can have the same duality. For example, in the Middle East, many people turn to religion because their daily lives are fraught with suffering. Through religion, they organize themselves, and in some cases, this enables them to adopt defensive positions that can improve their quality of life. Cases like the one I mentioned are contrary to what you said about religion being "disturbing", and that it "cheapens existence to the point that life isn't even worth living like that". For many people, it's the exact opposite. We shouldn't generalize our own personal experiences like that. Using religious extremism or harmful beliefs or past, personal experiences as an excuse to invalidate or dismiss people who post about their faith as "concerning" is not the most ideal thing to do. We should treat each other's beliefs with respect. The for-profit nature of social media platforms and apps such as this one is another subject as well, tied more to capitalism than to religion. Capitalism and the market have long weaponized religion to serve their interests. This is widely known. But guess what else is weaponized by these same forces? Science. This is not to suggest that religion is as "factual" as science from a scientific perspective, but to highlight that the issue is not black and white, as I've already said. kurtz 52
Unlike maybe anyone else here, I subscribe to the Hallow app. There is nothing bad, devious or threatening about it. It has music, prayers, daily meditations, people asking for prayers. It is a source of comfort and inspiration for many thousands of people. Yes, you pay for a subscription like most other services online. It costs about what you would pay for a latte at Starbucks once per month. I have never come across any messages from Tucker Carlson, Christian Nationalists, QAnon or any other far right bogeymen. The message is that God loves you. If you don’t want to hear that, you are free to ignore it and go about your day.
