‘Harry Potter’ HBO series eyes Paapa Essiedu for Severus Snape role

Y'all will believe anything. They've been "eyeing" actors for different roles for months just for the clicks. Pull yourselves together.

Also, this is not a no but it is definitely nowhere near a confirmation. This may very well be a publicity stunt since we've got a loooong way ahead before the release, it's a way to keep this relevant in people's mind.

Reps for HBO responded to Variety‘s request for comment with the following statement: “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumor and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalize deals.”

Do you really think there are only white people in the UK?

Look at some statistics. The story is set in the 90s in Scotland, not 2024 London :toofunny:

The characters come from all over the UK, not just Scotland.  That's why they take a train from London to get there 🙄

Snape's skin is described as pallid, which I've always figured was very white.

Also, yes J.K Rowling didn't specify the skin color of most white people in the book, but you know very well that every POC in the book is made very clear, either by direct description or by their name. She didn't specify the color of white people because it's the default color for her. She can say all she wants that she never specified Hermione's skin color, you know dawn well she always imagined her as white. :billie:

her hate for trans people should honestly be studied because it doesn't make any damn sense, why is she sooo hateful, i'll never understand it.

screw you jk Rowling for tainting my most beloved childhood memories ig

I feel like Joanne has some repressed feelings about being Trans and that's what fuels her hatred. I remember listening to people read her TERF Manifesto and it seemed to me like she has issues that she never really dealt with in regards to both herself and her gender. But that's just me. I feel like her whole outlook is her trying to convince herself that she is definitely not Trans.

On Topic: I have a feeling this series is gonna be marked by controversy...

I can't understand people being upset by this. Even if the books depict Snape's skin as white, does it really matter? It's not as if his skin has something to do with the plot and neither it's relevant to his character.

A large part of Snape's arc is that he was horribly bullied by Harry's dad, Sirius and the gang. They hated him at first sight and hated him for existing, so making Snape black could make these "good" characters appear racist idk.

Also Snape joins the Death Eaters who are racist blood supremacists (basically inspired by Nazi white supremacists), so ye making Snape black could be seen as a bit distasteful thematically or a bit tone deaf maybe. But who knows, if he gets the part I hope he totally slays it.

My only real issue is that Paapa Essiedu is far too handsome to play Snape, unless the make-up department really go to town on him.

Pandacadabra

And HBO has said a Green Lantern show is in casting/production since 2016. After a few years I stopped expecting.

Sorry to fans of the Harry Potter franchise (Potterheads?), but I hope this gets canned.
