I don't doubt Ariana could get nominations in lower grade award ceremonies but to suggest that acting in Wicked is going to be considered Oscar level is laughable. The academy also notoriously hates sequels and 2 parters (Lord of the Rings is probably the only exception) and that could really go against the movie's chances of doing well. If even the Harry Potter series couldn't win an Oscar, I don't see this one doing it either apart from maybe for original song or technical categories at a push. 

It’s actually kinda shocking they’re predicting her in the top 30 still. The Oscars are going to avoid FAD like a bullet, it’s a bad movie, and one of the most hated films of the decade (not Gaga’s fault, she was alright, but still).

Ari, however, is starring in a movie that’s looking to get 7 nods on the low end, more if they really like it. Supporting actress is notoriously a musical friendly award, often times being the only category where musical movies take home any Oscars, so it wouldn’t even be shocking if Ariana won. 
 

Not every movie Gaga’s done is gonna be a big contender, especially not if she keeps going with her poor instincts in choosing roles.

How do you know, though? This kind of musical just doesn't lend itself to Oscar nominations for acting. I've seen much good performances that don't get nominated before because the film just isn't the ideal vehicle to be considered credible for Oscar contention. J-Lo was shocked she didn't get nominated for Hustlers, not seeming to understand that she's playing the role of a stripper which is usually not suitable for Oscar consideration and that she doesn't have respect in Hollywood and Oscars is about campaigning with your credibility. Wicked is just for the fans of the musical, the academy isn't down for this kinda thing and really hasn't nominated musical-led performances for quite a while. Ariana isn't on the level where she could be considered an amazing actress either. And JFAD isn't the biggest flop of the year and there are comic book adaptions that flopped worse recently as well.

Actors have been nominated for roles in movies that flopped harder with worse critical reception. Glenn Close got nominated for HillBilly Elegy a few years back, and that had a 25% score on RT with 4.6/10 and that made less than $100k before it became a Netflix movie. And even though she didn't win a lot of them, Gaga got nominated for quite a few awards for HoG, despite even her own fans thinking it was a big pile of meh. And she was better than alright in this movie, most critics said she was the best part and under-used. That speaks volumes. 

The academy don't like sequels and 2 parters, it's just the way it is. Non-theatre fans think movies like this are niche and just don't get it. It might get some technical categories and its original song but it's just not the type of movie that gets nominations for acting. From what I've seen of it, it looks and sounds extremely cheesy and very polarising.

I'm not saying every movie she's in will be a big contender but she's been fabulous in every role so far so deserves it. Hardly a bad instinct in choosing the role either, she had every reason to think the film would be a hit, the first one was. It was hardly naviete on her part for choosing it. Even with HoG, that film was packed with credible actors with a huge director, you could understand why she thought something worthwhile could come of this.

But this hasn’t been the case for Wicked. I agree with a lot of other movie musicals, but Wicked is being pegged as something different. 
Also, I can say after having seen the full film on Wednesday, it’s not cheesy, and there’s no way it’ll be polarizing. Similar theatre experience to Barbie.

I refuse to see the movie after all the bad press and negative reception by the GP and the critics alike. I just don't want to be disappointed. I have watched ASIB and HOG and she was spectacular. She is indeed an amazing actress, as much as an amazing singer/songwriter.

In my honest opinion, FAD is just a misstep in her acting career. Look at Madonna, Mariah or Jlo, they had their flop moments, but in some of their roles were spectacular. Well, not Madonna but you get my point. 

Even if HOG wasn't a good movie, Gaga shined with her acting. Dramas are definitely her thing, Marry The Night music video was the first time we truly saw her potential as an actress. She should be very cautious with her next acting role and avoid musicals for a while.

Her not getting a nomination at the Oscars is not a bad thing. Nobody is nominated with every role they play. I will be very glad and proud for her if she manages to get one more with her third major movie.

Now let's focus on the real deal, DWAS, Disease and LG7. Grab them Grammys queen.
