Is there really no promo?

Question:

Did you guys actually expect proper promo during the election cycle + the horrible loss, grief and terror the U.S is going through right now? Coming from Gaga, that would be the most tone deaf thing ever. Also I think she's honestly trying to enjoy this rollout, rather than rehashing older trauma. Everybody keeps forgetting how horrible things got for her mentally since her hip injury. I'm sure she wants to make sure she's still pain free. Because you don't "heal" from fibromyalgia, you can become asymptomatic, which I'm so happy that she is. But I can imagine how exposure to the GP with extensive promo of her solo LP project is something that has many trigger points for her. That's probably why she's testing the waters. Kind of like how Chromatica Ball had only 8 ~ ish cities and she saw that she was ok with touring, so she is aiming for a big tour this time around.

My #1 expectation from her is for her to be healthy, and happy. The music is phenomenal, the visuals are so striking, she's creating beautiful and really f**cking sick art. Yes I miss the "old gaga" ways of doing promo, I grew up on that - so I genuinely understand. But some ppl under this thread are getting extremely demanding and behaving like "the monsters" she's talking about on Replay  :ohwell: (this is not to you OP, I feel ur pain lol)

This is what is ruining pop. If that was the case back in the 2000s/2010s for artists like Kylie/Madonna/Britney/Janet etc what would have been the point in an era.
Pop music has become more niche recently, I really wish that artists and labels would have a realisation that there is profit out of promotion and singles, each Gaga single used to be a mini era, that is what people bought into, so the fact that now for what feels like 8 years? we have had nothing interesting happen, or something to create waves when it comes to a single release, now should be the time.

well to comment on the state of the industry, we're not "buying" music anymore, so that's a part of the problem

Unpopular opinion: I know we all crave for the traditional Gaga marketing rollout (explosive era full of interviews, fashion, etc..). But, I'm also thinking if such a strategy would necessarily work in this era of music business, let alone help Disease's commercial success significantly. I know it's her brand but she hasn't maintained that image in a while, and comes across as an adult contemporary artist to the GP. Going maximalist Gaga, especially at the height of JFAD, would make her come across as pretentious.

Sadly, I think Tiktoks + any form of virality + fanbase/GP support truly is key. Interestingly, I kinda sense her team is pivoting to to it but they gotta do it quicker + it really is lacking :(((. Here are some considerations I have in mind as to the underperformance of Disease:

1. JFAD Flop: Hate to admit it, but I think it killed the hype for LG7. Did not fully ruin Gaga's image, but her attachment to the project is collateral damage. I also find it interesting that she released a major comeback single weeks after the release of JFAD, pegged as an event movie of the year. I really think they were banking on the hype (similar to ASIB -> Chromatica) because why release two major projects super closely? Methinks the plan was building momentum and kick in full gear come October (Olympics -> DWAS -> JFAD Press -> LG7 -> better chances for Grammys and Oscars).

2.  Failed to maintain core fanbase (!!!), and GP perception of her: Also hate to admit it, but I think the LM community has shrunken these past few years. Also, as mentioned, I think she has outgrown that "niche" image of her in the eyes of the GP. People crave for relatability in pop music, not sure if she still has that. If she's aiming for commercial/critical success, perhaps, doing ballads/theatre is the key. It aligns to her "prestigious" branding at the moment.

Nonetheless, still baffling why they had this form of rollout. From DWAS + Joker + Harlequin + Disease -- very, very confusing to me

I don’t necessarily think her fanbase has dramatically shrunken but more so aged out of the overly online/buying 20 variants to support a person they’ve never met and never will - age group.

And I think she knows that, her Haus knows that and the label does so as well. Her tours are still sold out, everybody is still watching her every move and praises her each and every time she releases something. It’s only really Infant Monsters who keep on Doom talking her career because she’s not jumping of buildings anymore to promote a song. She is a grown woman heading towards 40, why should she desperately try to appeal to people half her age? She seems super happy and extremely motivated and I for one am very happy seeing her this album cycle around. She is ever adapting to maintain her career and that’s ultimately what should make us, her „fans“, grateful.

It's all about anticipation-building nowadays. You can throw out all the content in the world and see what sticks, but creating a build, making fans and the general public want more, crave what's next – that's where the magic is made. I said this in another post, but I believe Team Gaga knows exactly what they are doing. Too much too soon has wrecked many a Gaga era. She's a scarce commodity and they knows it. Slow drip the medicine into our veins. Let's enjoy the ride, and let the storytelling unfold in real time :)

See, I think of this a bit differently.

I think they put the projects back to back knowing they could ride off the potential momentum of a blow out hit with Joker, but I believe Team Gaga were fully prepared to quickly move on and pivot, telling a new story for Gaga as a musician separate from the film.

In a way, this is the best outcome, because they can immediately dissociate from the film, with her solo artistry, and chart territory on her terms, giving the film less on her trajectory. Imagine had she not released Disease, and allowed the film to decide her fate. I think her and her team knows very well there are just too many factors with films, and you cannot rely on them for your success.

The best thing they could have done, and I would say the best outcome of the Joker era, was the DWAS release, which is laying THE foundation right now. With Joker flopping, they have the time and most important ant financial and algorithmic resources (audience) to pivot to LG7.

And I will say, for Gaga's core audience and that even includes newer fans, they don't give a **** about Joker. Her legacy is cemented. It's only the Marvel audience, who Gaga had a chance to win over, who is up in arms. People who love Judas or Bloody Mary or Bad Romance will be anticipating Gaga regardless.

I disagree. I think her core fanbase has shrunk a lot. This site is nowhere near as active or fun as it used to be and I think Disease not being able to crack top 20 shows that her fanbase has dwindled a lot.

Everybody knew she was versatile and liked to not stick to one sound or look but but throughout TF-C2C the fans always had tons of content, theatrics and investment in her. Then we had 10 years of choices that chipped away at the fanbase. Her mvs for Joanne were not that great, enigma was very cringey, she didn't promote chromatica, she had a whole advertisement era, broken promises, long waits, teasing that went nowhere, and hardly any avant-garde fashion moments that we love.

LG7's sound and visuals are great, but we're still missing all the content that makes an era exciting and memorable. Content is what makes a strong fanbase.

King of the Fall

As good as Disease is, does it really sound like the sort of thing that had hit potential? I think some of you guys are a bit delusional thinking that more promo is going to magically make it take off

I personally think they are sitting on LG7 and it’s gonna feed the og Gaga fans in a way we haven’t been fed in a long time and they know it hence the hype for what feels like a year now

I truly think this album will be a gift to the og fans and not a album for a number 1 hit but an album of art

I’m hyped and can’t wait

last night I watched the manifesto of mother monster and was in awe of her artistry like I’m shook we got to experience that and I’m rooting for her to share her art and mind again

I understood your point. I was just saying how I think the fan base has dwindle by a lot.

And my point was that it hasn’t, it just shifted into a less vocal age group. Most original LMs are now in their 30s and not chronically online posting or staging big sales strategies to get their faves on #1 for 40 weeks. But who cares tbh, she’s still producing and putting out stellar music and projects ☺️
