Bumping into Gaga: how would you react hypothetically?

Setting up the scene:

Imagine you’re in a small, family-owned supermarket in Malibu, browsing for groceries. Out of the corner of your eye, you spot Gaga quietly shopping for San Marzano canned tomatoes and Chinese broccoli. How would you react? Would you fan-girl? Leave her alone and continue shopping? Or maybe calmly approach her and mention that you’re a fan of her music?

I’ve been thinking about this because of the boundaries Gaga set with Little Monsters and how she distanced herself during the ARTPOP era after certain fans dragged the album and Gaga and other events that led her to step back from fans and the online world.

Also, with artists like Doja Cat and Chappell Roan speaking out about certain Stan behaviors, it makes me wonder—how should we act if we meet our idols?

Honestly, I would feel faint, stop breathing, and turn and run out of the store for fear that she would look at me and KNOW I was a straight-up psycho  

I could not be cool, calm, or normal, I could not get one word out to speak to her, I know this for a fact and would not put either of us in that situation

Unfortunately, that’s how I reacted when I saw her back when she invited Little Monsters to be extras for ASIB, minus the fainting. She looked overstimulated. Granted, I was jumping up and down and I was a foot taller than her at the time. 
 

I was wearing a blue shirt. Oh also, she sang an acapella snippet of You and I, but nobody was able to record that apparently.

I would definitely be sweating the most I've ever sweat in my whole life LOL but I would somehow get over my anxiety and go talk to her, even if it's for like 30 seconds - I would absolutely NOT let that opportunity slide

I would maybe ask about something she’s looking at or buying and try to have a normal conversation. I know she loves when people don’t recognize her.

I'd probably have an Eureka on RPDR S9 moment. I know we're weary of approaching her because of all that we know regarding her relationship with the public, but I get the sense that she knows who is who, she can feel who sees her as just an opportunity for a celebrity photo and who REALLY loves her.

Ok so I’m a regular Gagadaily visitor but have never really posted. I had to respond to this because almost the exact situation happened to me back in June of this year.

 

I was at a strip mall in Malibu and we were at the same coffee shop. I actually noticed Michael first and then her and my stomach immediately DROPPED. I went into fight or flight for real haha. Luckily, my friend (who actually introduced me to Gaga’s music in 2009) who I was with is way more bold and she convinced me to go up to her.

She was finishing paying for her coffee (Michael had left to go to a nearby smoothie place so she was alone) and we literally cornered her lmfaooo and said something like “so sorry to bother you we don’t want to take too much of your time but we just need you to know how much we love you.” She said “that’s sweet.” I said “you’re my everything” and she said “that’s so sweet” again. It was a Sunday and you could tell she wasn’t really in “Gaga mode.” She was polite but definitely not in the mood to engage with fans which was totally understandable.

The cutest part was I told her I have a Born This Way tattoo on my ribs and she smiled and put her leg to the side and said “me too” gesturing to her BTW tattoo. I’ll never forget that. She said “have a nice Sunday” and we went our separate ways. 
 

She went to join Michael at the smoothie shop and at this point I was spiraling because I felt like I didn’t say all the things I imagined for years I would tell her if I met her. It all happened soooo fast it was overwhelming. Something kind of funny is that after we spoke I saw her totally checking herself out in the reflection of a window. Lol it was just surreal to see her do something so human and relatable.

The exchange I had with her really humbled me. It made me remember that she truly is just another human being and although she is an artist who cares about us, she has her own life that is fully separate from us. All of this is obvious but I feel like it’s easy for us to forget that. She’s not on this earth to give us what we want (although she currently is with DISEASE), she has her own life and deserves privacy. And even though I feel like I’ve had a relationship with her for the past 16 years, she has no idea I exist lol. Put things into perspective for me and I was a little depressed for a few days after haha. Now I can look back on it with perspective and see it for the great moment it was. Still feels surreal that it happened!

Imagine you ask her for her name and mispronounce it on purpose just to show how much you don’t recognize her. Call her Ashley or something.
