if they dropped the song, music video and physicals on release day it would have charted higher but maybe they're choosing a different strategy? although I think it's a high risk they're taking. It should have smashed into the top 10 at least. 

They're probably dosing the promotion because of the 4 month gap until the album. I'm quite happy, though. Pop eras are pretty much dead after the album release these days... At least we'll have LG7 for longer.

And yet 6 of the 7 songs she has currently getting more than 1 million streams this week are not ballads (nor are they majority of the ballads you mentioned in your post). And her last ballad release (Happy Mistakes) flopped despite high playlisting. 

This debut is 27 because this is her most lukewarm lead single roll-out ever. Tempo, genre, etc. is only a small factor. 

Still, a really good song!

I’m shocked at how much I really like disease and f*cking love the video because I generally only really truly LOVE her ballads and live acoustic performances. This just isn’t the material the GP are looking for from her these days and if she had of released something in the vein of ARUTW she would have been top 10 minimum. Even with her older songs pulling large numbers, Disease just isn’t getting the best lead single treatment that it should to push it higher from the jump.

 

I do think it will rise some but honestly with Joker 2/Harlequin/DWAS all out within close proximity, I’m not shocked that this song is only in the Top 40.

Sorry to double post, but mimicking what someone said in another thread, we’ve been asking her to do something dark and experimental for years. She can either do a fan service album or a gp smash hit album, we can’t expect to have it both ways. She’s also 16 years into her career, the fact that people pay any attention to her new releases is a testament to her lasting impact

This, people forget that the music industry is more than just "letting the art speak for itself". You have to play a certain game to get your stuff to chart high, regardless of the sound or quality of the project.

But that's the main issue, it's not up to you but up to her and her team. 

This becoming her lowest charting lead single, could have them rethink, change or delay the album/era.
