Why does Perfect Illusion have mixed reactions among the fan base?

I didn't like it at first but it's finally grown on me after years 

For me it was the vocals I didn't like (too screaming) I still prefer Kevin Parker demo version

We just don't like the song that much I guess lol. It was also very different from what she usually did back then.

+ there is this weird thing about this song because on its own I don't like it that much but when I play it while listening to the entire album it's an absolute BANGER.

I personally just can't enjoy this song, it feels messy for me and pushed, especially the last minutes when the chorus gets higher... I perfer Disease 18838393 x more

Back then people were not expecting this sound from her, at all, so I understand the disappointment. The thing is that we had 8 years to digest that song and never became a fan favorite. I guess it was nice but nothing mindblowing (Father I have sinned, I never liked it )

The song is way too short which bugs me, i wish the verses were longer and I wish she didn’t belt in certain areas like in the bridge section and towards the end. It feels like she says Perfect Illusion way too much. The instrumental is great though

I don’t think she likes the song either, she will never sing it again, the high notes are right in her vocal break, hence is a very hard song to sing live.

for me is the angry vocals and the screaming, is a loud song and a lot of the fans weren’t into that.

PI never truly won me over. Live the energy was amazing, but I find I never listen to the song.

It's to repetitive for me, the chorus especially. The disco orchestral beat is completely burried under the vocals. There's no room to breathe, she goes from the verse to the chorus in a single breath, it feels rushed. Which is an interesting approach, but it makes me feel hyped up but not in a good way. I think this is the only Gaga song where I prefer the music without her vocals 

Live it works because you can just jump up and down and let out all your frustrations with it. But leisurely listening to it it gets on my nerves really fast.

At the time I found it an odd single choice because the GP would have a hard time dealing with this sound.

For me ARTPOP was a let down after BTW, as said before some of us were expecting a Disco Gaga album for LG5, I did come to like Perfect Illusion and its the only song I listen to from Joanne. I think sonically and visually TF TFM BTW and Chromatica makes so much sense. I appreciate ARTPOP and Joanne but could do without it. (Its just my personal opinion)
