“Joker” and “The Hangover” director Todd Phillips recently participated in a Hollywood poll for Empire magazine about the future of moviegoing and expressed his desire for movie theaters to get rid of showing commercials before films.

Phillips suggested theaters could be doing a bit more to combat the desire from audiences just to stream films at home. He sent theaters the following message: “Stop showing commercials before the movies. We’ve paid for our tickets. We’re excited to be there. The commercials tend to take the air out of the room.”

Commercials are usually before the actual showtime on the ticket... does he mean trailers? Cause I enjoy the trailers and I like watching what will be in theaters.

There is nothing you can do to motivate people to pay to go. I personally like to experience films that way but there are a lot of people out there who have very little appreciation for the experience.

Because if it gets you to come back, it’s worth double or triple your current ticket

I can't be free if my hands are tied... 🧟‍♀️👰🏻

like trailers? or real commercials? I think I only get trailers + Coke and AMC commercials.

I like the trailers but they can cut them down and pick better ones for the specific movie ur seeing

Everyone can just skip the commercials by showing up a bit later. Unless they don't interrupt the actual movie with ads I'm fine with it.

I wish director's would make shorter movies. Supposedly they got longer and longer because of streaming.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

Theaters are desperate.  You think people will pay MORE?

but the lights turning off, the screen widening and the movie trailers before movies are one of the best parts of the experience :messga: especially for horror movies with other horror movie trailers

unless he means the commercials before the movie trailers but in that case who even cares and wants to sit and watch a blank screen if you're early :air:

Nothing like seeing 'actual patient Lady Gaga' on the big screen. An experience deserved to be enjoyed on imax.

I wish it was like that here, I can turn up 35 minutes after the listed showtime and the movie still hasn't started, they play commercials, then movie trailers, then often more commercials again, then advertising the cinema as if people sitting in the screening aren't aware it exists...

He is so privileged and silly to say this stuffs. His POV is not the best. Cinemas would even be more expensive without those ads and trailers. The revenue from ada and concessions are what keeping the cinema running and ticket prices bearable (and it is already high, btw)
