It's not 2013 anymore and (whilst there was still no competition back then either imo), time has finally taught that Gaga is leagues ahead of Perry in every aspect of artistry, talent and pop culture. It's like trying to compare 5 Michelin Star Gourmet against MacDonalds. Can't we all just leave Katy in the deep dark ditch she's dug herself and move on? I mean yes, they both debuted at the same time also like Kesha, but you could never put them 3 in the same pot. Kesha and Katy kinda have the same level of success. They have 3-4 smash hits that defined the late 2000s/early 2010s while Gaga build up her career not only on her smash hits but her persona and the influence she has in pop culture. She was the reason every label tried to find the next lady Gaga, making all the artist wear bold wigs and high crazy fashion, so they can keep up with her. She was and still is undeniable and she is still kinda underrated. Gaga will be always remembered for beeing Gaga, while Katy will be only remembered for a couple of songs and still to this day she tries to bring back the past. I don’t think someone should compare them as Katy never really reached icon status for me personally, she never had the same impact as Gaga neither did she influence anybody or that someone ever mentioned her as their biggest inspo. You're letting your own bias (or hatred?) really cloud your judgement. I can agree Kesha has about 4 hits, maybe more if we include her features. But Katy has at minimum 2 big hits from her first three albums, and it could be said she had more for TD. So at a minimum she has 8-9. You will always remember "Gaga for being Gaga" because you are a fan. Just like Katy could be remembered for her campiness and such, especially by her fans. But their biggest spots in the memory of people will be their debuts and first big songs. Gaga has had an undeniable impact, but so has Katy. It's a bit silly to deny that just because one has had a bigger effect on you. To claim she hasn't influenced anybody or having never even been mentioned as an influence is a lie. Chappell Roan alone has name dropped Katy as a big influence several times in the last year, along with a lot of newer artists. We constantly look delusional when we have these takes. Just how you think it's not valid to connect Katy with Gaga, some Beyoncé fans would probably say the same about your association of the two.
