Nirvana 2,697
I agree that the lyrics are a mystery... It does feels though that they are about control and power over other in relationship. Maybe the music video will elaborate It more.

GerMonsterNotta 667
Ok for me DISEASE brings a lot of Gaga lore into play…. I think this is classic Gaga in that Fame (‘’Gaga’’) is both her DISEASE and CURE.. which she has struggled to balance her whole life up until this point.. Throughout all eras love and fame are interchangeable… these are core forces Gaga NEEDS for healing, NEEDS to thrive…. They are cures for broken hearts, they are journeys to fulfilment. But they are also contributors of PAIN.. Often competing (ie LoveGame)… but interchangeable in that shes navigating a way to have both …. 1) TF - Paparazzi themes - that obsessive behaviour of wanting to be followed (or to follow someone that’s the one!)… wanting to be famous - don’t stop for anyone - we’re plastic but we still have fun — that yearning to be seen, that yearning for love, shrouded in darkness and protected by the mystery of iconography 3) TFM - many songs here explaining the duality, especially the dark side of fame, BR - literally that oxymoron of BAD and ROMANCE, even though it’s bad you want it.. I want love AND I want revenge… 4) BTW era - Schiebe - wanting to be STRONG without dependency on a man/love/fame…. Just yearning and empowering to be ENOUGH even without it. Judas - loving the Light and Shadows in yourself and others…. Again Marry the Night in not giving up on oneself… ‘I’m not gona cry anymore…’ 5) ARTPOP era - I LIVE for the applause. The FAME, even with the toxic disease of it, is ALSO cure for an artists emotional and physical pain. 6) Joanne - perfect illusion - again a contrast a perfect reality vs fake illusion - again a duality of fame and outward projection - an abrupt realisation ‘falling free…. Modern ecstasy’…. That this is a complicated world of Gaga….. contrasted with the retreat in the simplicity of family, love and healing… 7) Chromatica - STUPID love….. even though she knows it’s stupid….. Fame/Love…. It’s the one she’s waiting for… it’s her fuel… it’s personified as a driving force for a whole race ‘kindness punks’…. 911 - my biggest enemy is me pop a 911…. self acceptance…. Rain on Me… 8) disease brings together self acceptance that Gaga = NOT ALL disease/bad; NOT ALL cure/good…. It’s her journey that she’s ready to reflect back on AND look forward…….. it’s about finding balance of love and fame at long last, her disease and cure all in one… Edited October 29 by GerMonsterNotta 4

It also reminded me that Gaga said she made Joanne to "heal her dad" and that that ultimately didn't work. So yeah, these themes have deep roots indeed.

JazzGa 14,458
I think it's a performance song from Gaga to the fans, with a meaning in the vein of "I can rock your world" and all those similar pop/rock sentiments. The "sick" ones = the Monsters thirsting for Motha, Gaga's cure = A good blast in the face with music A spooki take on the classic braggodacious pop song about how sexy and powerful u are I've taken a few dips in the lady pond

Government 71
I believe “Lady Gaga” is like an entity inside her that is singing to the younger and insecure Stefani who reaches out but “no one is there”. So, she puts this superhero cape called Lady Gaga, she lets Lady Gaga possess her and then she became fearless and the rest is history.
SEANGT 4,905
for me it's about self-healing. sometimes you try to get by using the same strategies as the past but they are no longer working (runnin out of medicine, you're worse than you've ever been). or even causing yourself harm (poison on the inside). But eventually your inner self begs for help or something more and you have to adjust. All you have is yourself. It's incredibly hard to accomplish this and to show up for yourself, especially for victims of abuse. I think the roaring tone of the rest of the song really sells this message that she's trying so hard to play the doctor, she's fighting for her life. I also think that like, every single gaga song can have this take. Almost literally every single one on chromatica anyway lol.

Foolofatook 78
I feel like a a **** saying this, but could we have like one post-hip album cycle where she doesn't sing about pain? Sis we all got **** going on, some of us need an escape!
Ashley 8,598
I love reading everyone’s interpretations My favorite and the one that strikes me as the most obvious is that she is singing to herself. The video should provide more insight

Sis we all got **** going on, some of us need an escape! It’s been a big part of her life unfortunately so it’s only natural that she would write about it, and I’m sure that’s her way of healing too. But I think this album might have some more uplifting songs since she said she’s 99% pain free recently.
