Gaga’s Lead Singles

I was relistening to Stupid Love yesterday and it just me hit how good of a pop song it really is.

It’s like I was listening to it for the first time or had a new found realization that I actually like it way more than I did on release.

I then realized that this has been my experience with every lead single of hers since Born This Way.

Perfect Illusion felt kinda underwhelming on release, now it’s the only Joanne track I regularly listen to.

Applause was mocked by some at release and now it’s a pop music classic that everyone knows and sings along to.

Does anyone else experience this with her leads? Having greater appreciation for them with time.

I think she’s the type of artist that always wants to move the needle and make people/fans feel uncomfortable at first, only for us to get it later.

Who would have though that Bloody Mary and Judas of all her songs would find any sort of commercial success, longevity and mass appeal a decade later!!

I sense a trend and Disease will unfortunately be under appreciated for now but in due time it’s gonna become another highlight of her career.

My friend and I have noticed lately, that when Gaga releases a lead single, it's almost always a song that's mid-tier, when compared to the rest of the album. Having such a bop as a lead tells a lot about LG7's quality :firega:

For me, with leads, it's always a hit or miss. I either enjoy them a lot, or I don't. I surely think better of Stupid Love now, but I'm still not in love with it.

I've been getting messages from my deep waters

I guess this happened to me with Born this way and Applause cause I kind of imagined them different haha I was taken aback with both for different reasons, but I did enjoy them and they grew to bi big faves. As for PI and SL........ I needed fan edits to enjoy the songs, sorry :P Now with Disease, it was love on first listen, such a fantastic song!

A Very Gaga Holida

I loved all of her lead singles on day one, except for Perfect Illusion, which I kinda like now (I listen to it maybe 10 times a year?). I loved Stupid Love when it leaked/was released but then I stopped loving it ´cause the lyrics were a choice I hadn’t paid attention to before :franminervini:

I loved Applause the most, I think? I don’t think it’s a classic yet, but I still love it so much. I was destroyed by Disease too, but I’m less excited maybe because the times are different now, she’s an etablished artist now, there’s no actual risk for her future in music

Am I the only one who noticed that when Gaga releases a new lead single or album, people usually start appreciating the previous one way more?

Gagaism

I’ve noticed since forever that takes time for her sound to stick to the ears because it’s always a lot to process, usually so many layers and it’s one of the most interesting things about her music. It’s actually fascinating.

Gaga's lead singles are like the narrator of the record, some sort of stand out that explains the message of the record but not necessarily the weirdest, more original sounding stuff.

it's always both a compromission between encapsulating the message of the record and being a 'safe choice'.

there's just all good in the end because we're on LG® standards.

the only exception is for bad romance. The boldest weirdest song of the record for the first single....

I think I will never like Perfect Illusion, and god knows I tried... I love all her other lead singles tho.

I’m expecting Disease to be the Stupid Love of LG7. :queenga:

Her Magnum Opus is coming.

All of her lead singles are great songs but after Bad Romance there’s probably some high expectations about what she’s going to do next and it happened to me too. Every lead single after that has left me with a “hmm” feeling not knowing how I feel about it.

Born This Way didn’t grow on me after months and it’s not even in my Top 10 of that album, Applause was disappointing (love it now), Perfect Illusion felt like “that’s it?” And Stupid Love was just silly that almost feels like a parody song.

Disease is the first time I’ve felt like “ohh ok” then immediately after a few listens becomes addictive. As of right now it’s my second favorite after BR. I didn’t think I’d love it more than BTW and Applause but maybe it’s the hype I don’t know.
