The fact a lot of you are only concerned about chart success is very sad. Gaga released an amazing BANGER, with amazing production, a true Gaga song, what we have been waiting for, for so long, and ya’ll are too busy worrying and panicking for no reason?! The industry is different, Gaga finally has the freedom to create and release as she pleases. This is just the start of an amazing new era for her, neither her, nor her label will let this fail. And even if it doesn’t do as well as we would like, what matters is that Gaga is pouring everything into this album, it’s clear to see. Gaga has nothing to prove, she will let her talent speak for itself. Popular success should be the cherry on top!

I just wanna say that I'm not obsessed with her chart success, but I'm still gonna try to help! Getting amazing music from Gaga is a huge privelege and a treat, and any chart success is just the cherry on top!

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Reality

Imagine if she actually released Abracadabra or Notorious Being as the lead like y’all wanted  those songs are even less GP-friendly and probably would’ve done worse and y’all would find a way to complain about them too after hyping them up for months :ladyhaha:

Disease has had minimal promo, so this isn’t exactly shocking. Just enjoy the moment and the music! It’s sad that we’ve waited so long for LG7 and now that it’s here, y’all are angry because she isn’t “doing enough”.

I think ya'll are missing the point. The fans who are complaining aren't necessarily complaining about the song's performance but rather the complete lack of interaction from Gaga and her team since the song was released.

I think the majority of us were expecting something more than just a few social media posts? It looks like they're not gonna change the gagadisease website or anything, like the rollout so far has been disappointing.

yeah and y'all started complaining not even 12 hours after the song came out

why not wait until an actual reasonable amount of time has passed before throwing bricks? i can understand a week of silence but it's clear there's more to the rollout, they're just pacing it

y'all wanted a long and proper era well... here it is!

mother, what must i do?

Is this good or bad idk

It means that the people who listened to it on day 1, didn't enjoy the song enough to play it again on day 2

So the disease isn't spreading instantly, many take time! There's an incubation period, mama!

I think the MV must be released before Halloween though... like... it's a spooky song, a spooky music video... the timing is now mama!

It’s gonna be so funny when this song ends up winning a Grammy or becomes succesful later on. Then Monsters will love it. Maybe it’s time some change their fav and stan a new pop girl if impressive chart success is still their main expectation from Gaga, nearly 2 decades into her career.

Flawless

The drop was inevitable, but 2.9M is harsh. I was expecting 3.5 at least but oh well.

It's a shame the era starts like this, I hope her team and interscope prepared a good rollout for this because selling this album could be a hard task.

the scars on my mind are on replay.

Do we really want to care about this though? The music's amazing, this should be the most important, not the charts, not the streams, just the music, the visuals, the new era unfolding, the hype, the love,...

Let's just enjoy the song. Let's wait for the MV. We're gonna get fed and that's what we asked for!

I’m going to be honest, I am not a fan of the song. I’m telling you, Gaga needs to go back to what made her popular and loved in the first place and that is straight pop music.she seems to switch genres constantly and it just doesn’t work.  How do you go from jazz to now 90s pop grunge in the span of 1 month. I will always support her, I just wish she would go back to the retro pop sounds that we all love.

You don't like Gaga. You like the perception you have of her as an artist :bionic:

I really like the song and i am addicted to it but i am a fan and just love almost everything she does but i don't think Disease is first single material at all, she has made way better hooks than Disease chorus. Just remember how smashing were Bad Romance, Poker Face, Telephone. Chromatica also had better options than Stupid Love and 911 but still her/her staff choices about First single didn't hit the right public. I am just glad we will get a new album in 4 months because from Joanne era that's been the best gagas experiences, the full albums.

Chasing chart numbers is seriously a... disease; it will ruin and tarnish even the very best of songs (which this is).

The truth is this: Gaga is unlikely to smash with her own solo pop music nowadays. And that is FINE. She's nearly 40. Her signature style of pop (Disease) is not the 'it' sound right now. Gen Z (or whatever) are unlikely to ever seriously get behind Gaga as a solo pop artist. And why would they? Most younger listeners didn't back Madonna once Gaga/Britney came around. It's the cycle of pop culture - it's normal. It's life.

Gaga is more than a legacy artist though. She still has a very large fanbase and has a lot of pop cultural relevance. She can have that without solo monster hits. She could even have that without the collabs that, yes, have certainly charted better than any of her solo material in the past ten years or so. She'd have that without charting high in any capacity. But again... who cares? Especially when the music is so good.

Lady Gaga will ALWAYS be famous. She will always be able to tour; will always able to release albums. She's an icon. And, honestly, the same can be said for Katy Perry. The criticism of Katy's music is because it's bad music (to a lot of us), not because it doesn't chart well. There is no double standard here (from me anyway). If Katy released a fantastic song and it didn't perform well on the charts... so what? Her fans are happy.

And let's not forget DWAS is one of the biggest songs of the year. So who really cares how Disease charts? It's one of her best songs, ever. Let's celebrate and focus on that. A badly charting lead single (if that's what this ends up being, which it might not be) is not going to impact Gaga's career if she doesn't want it to.
