ActualPatient 1,662
serious answer though and I know i'll overexplain based on personal experience. back in the early-mid 2000's, the norm was having phones with T9 keypads (think nokia's legendary 3210 phones). These were the mainstream before iPhones and Androids You used to press a key to jump between abc. For example, 1 press of number 1 gets you a; 2 presses gets b; 3 presses types c. The time in between those presses can be a small but not noticeable delay. If you wanted to type a word that had multiple of the letters from the same key, it's generally a painful experience. if you typed "back", you have to use number 1 and endure the delay between typing b... and a.. and c. if you type too fast and not wait, you'll cycle through a b c 1 etc. im not sure how long the delay is but it could be 1 second or more. To bypass that delay, you only had to press the uppercase/shift key. So it's faster to type "bAck" than "back" It wasn't until 2010s when alternating case style was used to express something else. 3 1
RudraCNG 14,912
I think nobody wrote like that in 2012 anymore. It was more a 2003-2009 thing. Microsoft Messenger era. Kinda off-topic, but it really triggers me that song titles in English Have The First Letter Of Every Word Capitalized. I swear I used to "correct" song titles in my MP3 and only capitalized the first letter of the first word. RoadToLouis 145
Reminds me of the Metroflog days. Oh God, the cringe I never got it. Like, it’s so much easier to use correct spelling. I guess social media was very new to us at the time and we didn’t know how we were supposed to act.
Chlorine 47,976
This originates from 90s actually The 90s had a lot of experimental type that represented breaking tradition with the past and embracing the new "digital" age (and digital typesetting)
