ThePerfectCure 244
Why is it the only track on Harlequin with “2024” in parentheses, when 11 out of the 13 are covers? I’m guessing it probably has something to do with copyright but what do u guys think?

RichAssPiss 4,725
I would guess there is some sort of legal issue with the song licensing. A lot of the old tin pan alley standards did not allow for any lyric changes back in the day. That's one reason why there are really interesting 20s and 30s recordings of love songs with same-gender pronouns. You could not even change the pronouns in the song. My guess is the owner of the song did now allow for lyric changes without giving the song an alternate title, or something like this. If it were not reproduced exactly as written, it needed a different title. So adding the year was just a compromise to alter the title just enough. Getting publishing and writing credits on standards seems like tricky business. Beyonce's Jolene is credited only to Dolly despite major lyric revisions, likely because Dolly had no intention of giving anyone publishing on any version of the song.
