Awrah999 4,183
Applause is a legendary song and so is Die With A Smile. The range, the talent, the vocals, the iconography, the Gaga
nkta 314
ROM only 4 weeks on Top 10?! Talk of the flops... Applause was truly a smash! And it still sounds great!

Also, every day I think about how if DWUW had an unproblematic feature artist (or just solo tbh) and a killer video ready to go it could’ve been one of her biggest ever. It’s such a smash. Shame that that roll-out was so messy, Troy has so much to answer for. Yeah Troy is evil. He abandoned her and then lied that she fired him. Since the world already turned on her, this only made things worse and people attacked her over this. he/him/his
Alfonso 1,449
I would have thought that Shallow would have been higher up. Anyways, DWAS is a smashing bop so let's keep it on the top!
dimitristhe 1,556
That's a HUGE accomplishment for her, especially when TikTok is making the hits nowadays. Also, such a ballad seems so unconventional and untrendy in the 2024 music landscape. DWAS proves that talent indeed wins. When we're not together tell me everything's gonna be alright

It was a hit solely off of talent, not clout or traditional promo. Not many people have such an accolade to their name. he/him/his

Shame that that roll-out was so messy, Troy has so much to answer for. Maybe one day DWUW gets it redemption when ARTPOP receives a re-release. People speak about Act II all the time when in fact Act I deserves a new release and a proper roll out lol. DWUW, Venus, MANiCURE etc there are so many great singles with hit potential and if you compare them to the songs that today get to become top ten hits they all are No 1 contenders imho fan-tas-tique, chic, freak, slaaaay

StrawberryBlond 14,330
Wow, the little hit that could. I didn't know it was doing that well. I also didn't know that TEOG did so well in the top 10 and that Shallow only got 7 weeks. Applause got 14 weeks? Insane! It sold over 2.7 million copies in the US alone, well over 4 million worldwide. It's also her 10th most viewed video on YouTube, was used in an ad and even showed up on the in-game radio in GTA V. We told ourselves it was a flop at the time but it just goes to show what comparison can do. Next to Roar, it seemed like a flop and even next to her biggest hits up until that point. But its actually held up surprisingly well over a decade later. 16 hours ago, A Very Gaga Holida said: I was speaking about “since Applause” Actually, that's quite a slay. To get your longest charting hit in years after an 11 year gap is quite hard to do, most artists get them in a cluster quite near the start of their career. It shows Gaga has longevity. And Shallow is one of the most successful songs ever, really shows us that a no.1 song doesn’t mean much if it doesn’t have the legs to keep it going
