This is going to become some weird kind of classic for all the wrong reasons :volantis:

I want to see the parallel timeline where Joaquin's wife plays Lee so badly, just to see how that would've played out

Maybe a Best Original Song nom for the waltz 🤞

The song is barely in the movie, it’s literally on no one’s radar… let’s just be real here. Even if it did get a nom by some miracle, it doesn’t stand a chance against Emilia Peréz.

That's her chance to get an Oscar next year... They have to campaign for it tho. I hope they do.

You think they’re gonna go out and campaign after this? :laughga: This fanbase is reaching new heights of delusion here.

The first Joker had a $65M budget.

Even when you take out the $52M for Phillips, Phoenix, and Gaga, that’s still a differential between the two films’ budgets of $82M. Where did all that money go?

I know everyone thinks it seems impossible but I think it’s not because they have to pay the people who worked on the film. Plus advertising, PR, flights and accommodation for the talent (bare in mind Gaga often stays in hotels where it’s $2k+ per night for a suite and often brings her team with her and they need rooms too) on the promotional circuit. Then there’s insurances for everyone, there’s payment for people within Warner and more. There’s a lot.

Also I’m sure that we get to know their budgets but they don’t necessarily use it all, I’m sure someone said the actual spending was $100m - 150m

Gurl... It's the music field not the movie or acting one. It's their only chance at getting an Oscar apart from cinematography and score. They'll try like Disney always tries to submit acting performances in Marvel movies :ladyhaha:

Saw the movie yesterday and it was absolutely good… of course isn’t beyond the first one

saddens me that people are only hating because of the critics and also I feel like this movie was more clever.. not for any audience .. not trying to sound picky

if those DC and blockbuster fans were expecting something  totally super hero related… the joke is on them not in Todd

Guys, read the room… Warner Bros. cannot wait to swipe this film under the rug. They’re not gonna drag it in a campaign for awards they perfectly know they won’t get.

It's not about getting paid. It isn't this shallow.

Especially if they have other films to campaign for that had much better receptions

“If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide. Not a billion,” says a source familiar with the internal awkwardness. “People showed up because that guy was Joker.”

:tea:

there was really something behind all this WB / DC / Todd drama, that explains the results of the critics and GP :ohno:

I think they will absolutely still submit Gaga and Phoenix for the Globes to see if they get any traction, and depending how that goes they can either ramp up or back off on the rest of awards season.

I’ve seen a lot of people start to come around on the movie after further reflection, so WB may want to use awards season to try to squeeze a bit more revenue out of the film.
