Like I'm not Todd Phillips apologist, don't like him actually, but this sounds very normal. Actors do lots of takes, trying things in different ways, and then the director picks the one they like best/they think works best with their overall vision. We might not all agree with that vision in the end, lmao, but he's not saying anything weird. (That said, I don't think saying this will make anything better, so he should hush ) 1
Ayden 100
I also wish this scene stayed in, but knowing how hard it is to make the montage of a movie, trying to keep all the elements tight and balanced to make the narrative flow in the best way it can... i can't say i blame him for deleting stuff. After all, this has been the way he also directed the first Joker, and he said he had to cut a lot of Joaquin's improvised scenes to keep the flow of the movie. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices in order to tell and show the movie you want. Also, so far, i haven't seen any deleted bit from the movie that would've been indispensable. Good on their own? Maybe. But important and useful to the narrative and the feel Todd Philips wanted to achieve... not so much. I think the movie is very good as it is, imo. And Gaga's role is just what it needed to be for the story to work.

SpadesToStart 2,518
The fact that they filmed multiple wildly different endings to the film already told me he had no idea what type of story he wanted to tell. 17
Emvee 7,609
The fact that this is a headline smells like there is a concerted effort to pin the failure on Gaga. You know, the person who only had about 30 minutes of screen time? Hollywood is still such a cesspool of toxic people. No.....and neither is that outfit. She's already at the top.....has a cigarette and does a little song and dance before going inside.
gumzy3000 6,921
What exactly would it have added to the story if Gaga kissed that woman? Seriously asking. trolly troll troll 2

This is his movie, not Gaga's, so why would he just keep it in because she did it? We're doing too much In the article it literally says the scene has dialogue and that is the reason he cut it is because he only wanted “vibes” and not dialogue from her. Which is ridiculous given that the film need more Lee and the scene of her with the extra would have been better suited than just randomly showing her lighting a cigarette and dancing before walking in the courtroom. Todd has been and always will be a massively pretentious asshat but I had so much faith in him for this movie until I saw it. I really believed in Gaga being able to pull out a great performance because of how well she works with her peers but not even she could get past the fact that Todd is incapable of having a female character on screen in a fully developed role with nuance and development throughout the story. This film being less than desirable as a finished product is on his shoulders and this article is and his statements are proof he really wants a scapegoat. The Ew from Judas 388
I’m usually the type of person to give the director the benefit of the doubt but the way he worded this totally throws her under the bus and is definitely not the way something like this should be stated Ew

Robert 244
Do you really think the movie would have been different if they had added that scene? It would have been nice to see it, but it's not a big deal, come on. The same goes for the elevator scene, nothing would have changed about the film if they had added it. I think that scene was shot only for promotional purposes. Think about it, it's no coincidence that it's also an official promotional image for the film
