I knew the making the joker a musical was a bad idea. It never made sense- and the straights that normally see this type of movie are going to overwhelm it with bad reviews.

It was actually a good concept, the issue is they chose not to commit to it, so in the end the musical numbers just feel gratuitous and random.

Yes I’m astounded by it too which is why I am assuming it includes the crazy marketing plan…you might be right though

Even if marketing was like $50 million out of that number and the movie cost $150 million, it would still be an incomprehensible number.

I know inflation happened, but 25 years ago it took less than $100 million to make a Lord of the Rings film. Kinda puts things into perspective.

The salaries for the stars alone put a huge dent in the budget. Bottom line is they thought this film would be a mega hit and poured an obscene amount of money into it. Obviously a huge misjudgment.

If anyone should take responsibility it's the director for letting his lead do whatever he wanted to. They literally scrapped scenes and rewrote them on their own in Phoenix' trailer.

I heard someone say in a review there was a rumor Todd was sabotaging it because he never wanted to make a sequel (similar things were said about the latest Matrix movie too)

It could be worse, I'm looking for positives here. If a movie has to make around 2.5 times its budget in order to break even and this took $190-200 million to make (I'm still bewildered as to where the hell that went) then we're talking about $475-500 million to break even? This is going to be a nail biter. I just want it to do better than The Flash ($271 million) and The Marvels ($206 million), which were the 2 comic book mega bombs of last year. As long as it does better than them, the haters can't make that much fun of it.

Movies never include the promo and advertising. That's why movies have to make well above their budget in order to be profitable. A movie of this budget, in order to be a true profitable hit, usually has to make around $650-700 million. That's going to be a big ask, which is why I'm content with just breaking even.

It's a theory but I'm not sure. I couldn't make something purposely bad, my pride and ego just couldn't handle it. And major money's on the line. If it flops disastrously, it could impair Todd's future as a director and harm his reputation, so it's hard for me to believe this could be the case.
