I said it once and I say it again: they need to release a "Gaga cut" of the movie.

I am pretty sure they shot a lot more scenes with Harley and the producers thought the movie was too long, and since they can't edit anything with Phenix lest the story couldn't go on, they decided to cut her off instead.

I mean, I don't anything for sure, but

Spoiler

the beginning of their love story, the part in which the movie turns into a musical after the movie projection in the asylum, and a ton of other moments seemed to rushed to me that's the only explaination I could come up with.

In the state the movie is, Harley can almost be totally edited out from the movie and it wouldn't change a thing (except for the music part, of course)

I hope Gaga doesnt get blammed for the musical aspect of it. Like they chose to make the movie a musical because they had Lady Gaga

I've said it in other threads and although Todd Phillips made very questionable decisions and is taking the heat for them (as he should), Warner Brothers is absolutely at fault as well. I fear we're about to learn some very interesting behind the scenes things about this film in the coming weeks.

Agreed. Bc I actually think the musical idea is fun and inspired choice in a VERY boring sequel market for these types of movies. The issue is it should have been tinkered with more. Testing would have brought like…every issue to light LOL ironically it’s not the music sinking this movie.

I sorta hate we live in a world where art gets focus grouped but here we are.

Yeah but when you’re sinking $200m+ into a piece of art some feedback isn’t a bad idea bc it’s not one auteur doing this it’s potentially the fate of thousands of jobs if a movie bombs bad and leads to layoffs. I’d look at it more that way bc that’s basically the purpose it’s serving

The movie itself has a certain tone to it, I dont want to say depressing but it has a down/dark tone to it and I get the first movie had that but its a musical as well. Some people are put off by musicals but you add the layer that its somber/dark and musical numbers that are not visually appealing or striking.

So many musical movies get grand or creative when a musical number happens but not this one.. The song choices are also not wow enough, so many villain type and prison-themed songs out there like Feeling Good, I Put A Spell On You, Bad, This Is How Villains Are Made, Seven Devils, No Rest For The Wicked, We Must Be Killers, Jailhouse Rock, etc. Like it wouldve been fun to see The Joker do a reworked version of Cellblock Tango or Gaga/Harley singing Play With Fire or Riot during that arson scene. I just feel like the Musical aspect of the film was half-baked and not pushed all the way through.

Wait cellblock tango would have been SO funny and a really welcome bout of creativity for joker tbh

This was supposed to be Gaga’s biggest movie ever :air:

Luckily her acting was praised and this bomb belongs to Todd + Joaquin :alsemanche:

Anyways, LG7 is coming soon to clean up this mess :anveeroy:

Tbh, I commend Todd for his boldness... it clearly didn't land with the audience but at least he stuck to his vision, as twisted as it may be. Keeping the proportions, I feel he did with Joker what Rian Johnson couldn't do with Star Wars IX, with Disney making J.J. Abrams direct a fan fest of a movie instead.

You know, not every movie should be made with the goal to please the audience/make a billion dollars...

With that being said, I think it's really weird that WB of all studios let him go on with it and take such a big risk... I might be being dramatic here but I think this probably won't happen again anytime soon, maybe they did this to prove a point (and they did)

Which sucks bc every *other sequel to comic movies being made rn sucks and is so so so boring and bland and regurgitated trough slop. Studios learn the wrong lessons all the time and that sucks. It’s not the musical that blows here lol it’s how the story gets told and honestly some of the music *choices. But the concept is kinda cool and feels like a natural progression of a descent into madness set up in the first film which also had music as an important piece of the story!
