I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to imply that just because some of the GP and little monsters don’t like this album, means it’s not of quality. That would also imply anything with generally high sales and favorable reviews is OF quality. Do we think Gangnam Style is a song of quality? These songs are composed of entire live bands and not to mention Gaga’s vocal delivery on this record in itself, its very evident that there was a lot of work put into the small details with this record, and regardless of public opinion, this is well made music. DWAS, along with shallow, is a very safe choice for radio play because it’s just a classic sounding ballad. Not necessarily anything different. Just as most people like vanilla ice cream. There are several moments throughout harlequin when the vocals and production are better than what we hear in DWAS. We as a society have kind of forgotten that art is subjective. Every body is entitled to like or not like it, but Gaga is not the kind of artist to just push out low quality art. 2

"Nasally" is one of the most common critiques of her vocals and this album is definitely inspired by Babz. It's love it or hate it I guess but I'm pretty sure it's intentional Sorry but no. Absolutely not, and its not a technique. It would be placement. Being nasal can mean more than One thing, yeah. But...basically One Is completely void of breath support, proper vocale closure, ecc. Singing like barbarba or most tenor voices in the higher register, its more of a schwa position with forward placement but its not closed off sound. Gaga does this sing the cure, She sounds like Shes with a cold and snorting. Also cheek tò cheek already She did that but with a more round doppie, way Placed too in the back. So too much throat space And now Shes been singing a bit too forward😂, It can happen. She plsys a bit too much changing her voice. Gaga bad nasal. Its not a critique its the Truth and i think its pretty clear at First listen.

Her voice is nasal, it has always been. Maybe it becomes more prominent when she sings jazz, but it has kind of always been there to some capacity. Even when she speaks. The spoken part of Judas sounds pretty nasal too, and has that "blocked nose" type of sound. I think it just becomes accentuated when she's singing jazz, that's just it. Would you differentiate though between the sound that she produces on Harlequin and the sound that she often produced in previous jazz performances ? What I'm getting at is that I often didn't like the nasal sound that I was hearing before, but on Harlequin, nasal or not, I think she sounds consistently terrific. It's different, at least to my ear anyway.
