robboadam 1,935
This might be more relevant for UK peeps, but if it helps, one of the top movie critics in the UK - Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo - both said they enjoyed it and they preferred it to the first one. Which was a really nice surprise, I was expecting a lashing from them! It’s made me more positive about seeing it tonight. 1
Oriane 19,772
I can't believe some of you went without having seen the first one Even if they're putting some bits of context, I think it's one of those sequels where you can only appreciate it if you know the first one. You popped my heart seams, all my bubble dreams

I only watched it to support Gaga and left feeling like I had wasted my time so just imagine what the general public or fans of the first film feel like Although Gaga does the best she can with what she's given, her character is a big letdown because of how poorly developed Harley is. Not only that but they cut out a bunch of her best scenes and looks. The musical elements don't work at all because they do nothing to tell the story of the film and feel like pointless interruptions as oppossed to successful musicals like The Greatest Showman. This. TBH I loved Gaga in it and thought she shone and didn’t think her airtime was actually that bad. But I do wish they had used the time during the musicals to develop her character/her relationship with Joker a bit more. Also, did Harley blow up the courtroom? I can only assume it was her. I left feeling like I had wasted 2.5 hours of my time. The film was…for a lack of a better word…unnecessary. I also spoke with a few people (who are indifferent about Gaga) and they said that whilst she was great, the film was a complete waste of time. 2
Chromanne 60
I think the film shouldn't have to be a musical, rather they could have dived deep into the character of Harley Quinn and throw light on how she ended up liking joker. Many are criticizing the film for that. Nevertheless, Gaga did what was asked to do very well. I wish she really avoids musicals while acting in films in the future so that she can concentrate more on acting.
azul 2,088
I love to have different opinions and takes on things. But girl, they are right, this was terrible. It has a bunch of great elements (actors, good soundtrack, cinematography) that are not linked by a plot whatsoever. What a waste of talent, money, and time. I think Gaga is taking nothing from it besides the money - no recognition, no popularity, no career growth as an actor. I assume even she recognizes it, and that is why she is more than ready to move on with LG7. I'm moving along with her
M i K E Y 7,289
I am finally seeing this movie in a little more than 24h. Usually I dig movies that are torn apart by critics but since even fans are divided I’m not sure how it will turn out. I will find out after work tomorrow NO DUCT TAPE - NO MISSON
bionic 41,830
I was not a huge fan of the first film. It was decent but nothing special. This film failed to meet that low bar let alone surpass it. Gaga was one of the stronger parts of the film but underused. Aside from maybe 1 or 2 sequences the musical numbers were poorly utilised. It did feel like the film was embarrassed to be a musical and clearly knew it had to appeal to the bro crowd who loved the first film buy bionic
JohnnyVersace 8,776
I loved it tbh. As a JazzGa stan, it felt so intimate and special, and really made Harlequin more contextual. I thought the story was a great way to tie up Arthur’s arch, and the ending was just 🤯. Kind of feel a third with Lee might be in the works.

Juniper 788
Should’ve had a better, meatier script. AND I would have loved if they had shown more Lee outside of the prison and courtroom so we could see her stan life dedicated to the Joker. Gaga should have plenty of experience from die hard stalker fans from her own life. Instead it felt very boxed in, which is also the Joker POV I guess. But the whole movie was claustrophobic. Maybe give us a scene of her riling media up and talking about the Joker for instance? Edited October 4 by Juniper

It made no sense whatsoever, absolutely zero character development
