I loved how the music was incorporated, in fact I wish they pushed that a bit further and went full Chicago in terms of format. Gaga's performance was fantastic. Hide contents My main critique is the ending. I think it was fitting that Arthur died the way he did, but the film needed a splashy Harley button to actually end on, like a full out performance of "That's Life" after she learns Arthur died. I didn't follow the leaks, but I've heard there were a lot of end-of-movie Harley scenes that were left on the cutting room floor, which is a real pity. Spoiler Yeah, that was a thing for me, too. At the very least, Joker deserved a grand send off. Like I loved how he came back to reality and was trying to stop Lee from singing. But it would have been marvelous in the end, if she just belted something out as she walked away as the cops come in. I think that would have served both characters well.
just another gay 829
The movie is not as bad as some people said it is but I think it's a missed opportunity... feel like it wasted Gaga's character and only using her for her singing Lee has so much potential but they played her down

Butters Stotch 5,359
Not sure what movie people saw, because I ABOLUTELY LOVED IT and thought it was great!! The musical scenes made complete sense, the singing wasn't awkward and I enjoyed it a lot. Gaga was great. Her screen time was perfect. She was the reason all of that happened and I can't understand why people say she wasn't on screen enough. She was there when she was needed. I think the thing is that her acting was so good that you are left wanting more, but that doesn't mean her character was underused, it means that you want to see her acting again more and more. About the ending, I think it was pretty obvious in the middle of the story how everything was gonna end, so I was very curious to see how they were going to make everything happen and I think they got there perfectly. The Gaga scenes that were left out were not necessary so I understand why they weren't included. And those complaining about not seeing her become Harley Quinn, well... you never saw her become Harleu Quinm because she was always Harley Quinn. From the beginning you could see how crazy and manipulative she was, so the makeup was just a way to exteriorize what she had always been in the inside, because she was always a psycho. I do think it could've been a bit shorter. That being said, I repeat, I loved it!!! T-t-t-t-that's all, folks!!! Siena 5,624
Just got home from seeing it and OMG did I see a different movie than the one everyone is complaining about?? I fully walked into this film feeling ready to be disappointed and the bar was on the ground, like I was actually not even looking forward to going because of how bad everyone was making it out to be. Anyways within the first 20 min my friends and I kept looking at each other and saying how good it was already, and I literally spent the entire film waiting for it to "get bad". It never once was, and I LOVED it. I already knew the acting, cinematography and music would be great, that was a given. However, I enjoyed the storyline a lot as well, and thought it was poignant and extremely relevant to society today relating to our prison system, lack of rehab and mental health services, affects of childhood trauma etc. These themes in itself were presented very clearly and are important to be discussed, and it is great to see any film be open to these challenging topics. I loved Gaga's Lee, and thought she had a strong prescence throughout the entire film, whether she was actively in a scene or not. I won't give spoilers, but so many of Arthur's actions / thoughts revolve around her and the impact she has on him. While she didn't have as many "Oscar bait scenes" as I guess people wanted, she portrayed what I think truly is her best acting to date. She disappeared in this role wayyyy more than I think she has with others, and every time she was on screen I was captivated. Of course the film wasn't perfect, and there are some things that could've been better and some complaints I do agree with. Some of the musical scenes could've been 1 min shorter, I wish Gaga had more dialogue, and I am irritated by movies in general showing scenes in their promo that are cut from the film. Additionally, this film truly isn't made for any one audience, so I see how it can be loved or disliked strictly based on your expectations going into it. Yes, typical comic book fans may not enjoy the theatrical aspects, and Gaga fans watching it strictly for her and no other reason will obviously want to see her in as many scenes as possible. I happen to be the exact person this film was made for I guess, a massive Gaga Stan that also happens to love the first Joker film, and enjoys a good courtroom drama (12 Angry Men is a classic film I would 100% check out btw). I can't wait to see it again, it certainly requires several watches to truly digest. All I can say to sum this up is that I am so happy that I was proven wrong going into this. It truly is a one of a kind film, and while it isn't for everyone, it in no way deserves the hate it is getting. doppelganger 3,854
I loved the movie - one of the most provocative superhero films ever. The Dark Knight was great but Nolan double downed on the premise about the threats of capitalism from his Batman trilogy that gave it an unsatisfactory closure. Todd stuck to his guns and presented this as an allegory of the society's depravity. It's a middle finger to the fans of the first film (especially the ones that completely missed the point). Concertaholic 5,444
We’ve been waiting for this date for years! I remember when it was announced and thinking that it was so far away and that the day would never come so it’s kinda surreal that it’s here. 3

Mars 1,906
I saw it last night. Its a solid movie, both leads were phenomenal but the script I thought was lacking in some areas, they could have really fleshed out the story and characters in the second half. Some missed opportunities in regards to Lee for sure, like I was dying to see more of her transformation and personal life.

GreenEyes 640
This movie could have been so great, considering how much time they had to make it I can’t believe this was the end result. I feel bad for Gaga, I feel like she made Harlequin because she knew the movie wouldn’t satisfy us. She wasn’t done with Lee because she has much more to offer and they said no, but we are going to use you to promote the hell out of this movie using your big superstar name. Todd and Phoenix are doing the bare minimum and she has given 100%, shows how much she takes her art seriously. I didn’t mind the musical numbers, I think they were wacky and I enjoy that with Harley and Joker. But we seriously need a different cut of the movie giving Lee more depth, they owe us at least that. I won’t spoil the ending but I didn’t mind that part either, I did enjoy the commentary about how the beginning cartoon intro and how fan culture leads the artist into that sort of position. I’m going to see it again with my boyfriend this weekend and I hope I like it a little more, not the worst thing I’ve seen but right now it’s like a 5/10.
