Genuinly don’t believe this, at least not in large scale, I feel like some people on twitter are actively trying to dramatize the situation. It’s the new movie to hate. Also these ‘reports’ coming from Marvel fans… something’s odd here. 1

I just saw a tweet with over 88k likes saying how people were leaving as more musical numbers came up… I find it hard to believe this. The reaction seems so dramatized, like I get a lot of people didn’t like it but something’s fishy over here. Also, a lot of these hit tweets seem to come from Marvel fans, is this what they do? It is common for people to exaggerate the emotions they feel. If they don't like something, they will look for any reason to prove to the whole world that it is bad (even if the world didn't ask them to). I watched the movie in the biggest theater in my city and absolutely no one left early, many sat through the end credits. 4

Like I could tell why some things happened and I warmed up to the movie. This is definitely Gaga’s best acting outing till date. Still wish she was more present though. Watched yesterday and pretty much adored the whole movie. Joaquin and Gaga's performances are great and the whole plot is a reflection on the previous events. I understand it deviates from what people want a sequel to be but it still engaging and explores the issues on society a lot deeper. Also took my mom with me and she was really impressed and touched. 2 1
Siena 5,624
I’m seeing it later this evening and I’m so excited. But I’m also genuinely confused at these reactions? It’s like there’s some vendetta against the film and all critics are dog piling to prove some weird point. Like I don’t get how you can have some reviews saying it’s amazing and then others showing this much hate.

This film is somewhat of an anti-thesis of the current films shown in cinemas. But please enjoy it! ❤️
Shyane 1,529
I know once some fans of the marvel heard there is musical element in the movie, they started hating it. They also don't like Gaga to be Harlequin. I imagine these are the fans who hate this movie the most because it's not a traditional marvel movies. But I haven't watched it yet so I don't know. Also, people walking out during the film is too drastic. They are either exaggerating or those are a few marvel fans who have preconceived notion what the movie should be about.

From what I seen: - GP didn’t know it was a musical at all and find it distasteful since it doesn’t match the tone of the first one. - They felt like the marketing lied to them thinking it would be twisted chaotic love story with Harley and Joker instead of a courtroom drama focused on Joker. - Gaga fans hate it because they feel like she was only used to promote the movie since had limited screen time and even less lines. - Comic book fans also hate musicals but also angry that Todd’s universe doesn’t respect the comic book lore. - Musicals fans don’t like how it was too “scared” to be a musical in the sense that music didn’t move the plot forward. It felt random and forced. - Fans of the first movie feel like the movie undid what they loved about the first movie and even think it was a direct attack at them.
Reality 71,858
I'm glad to see more positive reactions in this thread lately. I'm seeing the film on Saturday, and reading through some of these later responses has reinstilled some hope. After listening to some of the issues people had with the movie (and unfortunately getting spoiled in some areas ), I'm adjusting my expectations of it and, for the most part, I think I'll still end up enjoying it. SlayMeToVenus 3,256
It’s down to 39%. I didn’t think it was THAT bad. I thought in the 60’s was a good score. I don't have a Diamond Heart.
ceminay 502
I will watch it soon and can’t wait to see what everyone is talking about. However, on my Twitter, I’ve had a lot of very popular tweets popping up saying how bad it was because it’s a musical and they weren’t warned beforehand, how musicals suck etc… I think the recent over saturation of cheesy superhero movies that people watch no matter caught people off guard this time. I loved the first Joker movie, don’t get me wrong, but when the average person goes to see a DC/Marvel movie, they know what they’re getting into. Anything remotely different that isn’t full of fighting scenes or involves singing will piss some people off. I think most of the initial backlash could be that, rather than what actually may be issues with the movie. I don’t want to talk more about a movie I’ve never watched, but the online reactions I saw now and before the movie by this basic incel crowd gave me this impression. I can’t wait to see it for myself. 2
Emvee 7,616
Saw this happening the moment I read that it was going to be a musical. I was actually hoping it was a false rumor. Once you make an audience feel like they have been deceived, it’s very difficult to get them to actually listen no matter if there is merit.

androiduser 7,438
can Gaga fans take into consideration that Gaga makes a huge difference to them so they love a big aspect of the film by default, whereas the GP is more neutral about it, and potentially not as biased? 3

About 8-10 people walked out of my viewing. There were maybe 30ish people in the theater. At the end there were several audible remarks made about how they liked that it had musical scenes but not to the extent that was used in the film. I have to say I agree in feeling like there was too much singing for me as well. I am seeing it for the second time this evening and I sincerely hope I can just let go any thoughts of the first time and really concentrate on the film as a whole. This is something I have been hyped about for three years and I was left feeling disappointed in regards to the film as a whole. The plot is there and the way Todd uses the characters l to make a very direct statement about society/toxicity/fans/obsession in general is great but in my opinion I just felt like I was left with more questions than answers and not feeling resolved at the end of it. The writing is extremely lacking. In fact most people are not going to do any real looking for a plot without one actively presenting its self in an obvious manner and this film just does a **** job of slogging through the previous story of the first one. Gaga does an incredible job with what she was given though. Edited October 3 by G U C C I
