I mean, her uncle being a freshman GOP from Missouri is only tangentially related to that claim (if at all), but when did she specifically claim the Dems and GOP were the same on LGBTQ+ issues?

In her Tik Tok.

@Morphine Prince I fundamentally agree with you that the way she’s handling the discussion of politics is short-sighted, counterproductive, and kind of dumb, but I think trying to insinuate that she’s a conservative op or something is both in bad faith and unnecessary.

I never suggested that, just pointing out the misguided takes and her hypocrisy

She didn’t say that in the TikTok clarifying her interview w/ Rolling Stone, tho. She literally said that “cis people shouldn’t be making laws governing how trans people exist” and then pivoted to a vague comment about questioning people in power and holding them accountable. Tbh, I think you’re extrapolating more than what was actually said because I think her political commentary is largely a whole lot of nothing that people, on both sides, tend to project whatever they want it to mean onto.

You literally shared a tweet that implied that she refused to call out the GOP because her uncle is a GOP rep that plays into the wider smear campaign that she’s a closeted conservative lol. Like, once again, I don’t disagree with you about her politics, but there’s no need to introduce unnecessary attempted character assassination nonsense to make that point.

You both need to take a civics class. Democrats have not had the votes to achieve what you're asking for. When they have the votes, they pass them. They were able to secure enough votes to pass the Equality act just this year:

https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/15

The reality is that you don't know what you're talking about.

They didn't pass it though. They referred it to comittee in both houses on June 21st 2023 where it's been left to rot.
The Senate Democrats are their own worst enemy and have let numerous bills be fillibustered to death because they refuse to amend the Standing Orders.

Lets look at bills that were left to die during the 117th Congress when the Democratic party had the White House, Senate & House of Representatives.
H.R.1 For the People Act - a bill to expand voting rights, reduce the influence of money in politics and ban partisan gerrymandering. Died in the Senate due to the Filibuster which the Democrats refuse to abandon.
H.R.5 Equality Act 2021 - Died in Senate Committee
HR.6 American Dream and Promise Act of 2021 - Would have made DACA law. Died in Senate Committee.
H.R.603 Raise the Wage Act 2021 - Again, died in the Senate.
The Women's Health Protection Act which would have enshrined abortion access into Federal law - Died in the Senate because again the Democrats won't amend the Standing Orders forcing it to need a 60 vote majority & a Democratic Senator voted against it.

All these things they promise they'll do if elected this year. All of these things they failed to do when they controlled all levers of the Federal Law making process. And so long as the Senate Democrats refuse to amend the Standing Orders in their own favour (Which is something the GOP do every time they get into the Majority) they'll never be able to pass legislation on the policies they promise in their Federal level platforms every cycle. Because ain't no party getting a supermajority of 60 in the Senate without a significant reallignment of US electoral behaviour and a major reduction in partisan voting.

Crazy how the majority of people in here (and everywhere else) are telling Chappell to stop talking, instead of telling themselves and everyone else to stop reacting.

It's the same people that praise Gaga for being open and raw in her music. Chapell's mistake is speaking about it rather than putting it on a catchy song little monsters will pretend to relate to. I'm disgusted at the amount of people that scream mental health until it's someone they don't like.

Everyone in the world feels overwhelmed, we all push through one way or another. She’s not cut out for this industry, almost no one is; and while I support her wanting to get better, I feel she really does not seem to actually want to get better. The moment she became huge she’s been showing industrial amounts of disdain and repulsion for her own job. I dont think any amount of therapy will make her love this enough to keep doing it in the long run, so I think all these “prioritizing my mental health” is her actually just chosing to stop being a Pop Star cause she truly hates it, not a moment to retreat and gather herself and try again.

when you love something you do it. And if you have to try over and over and gather yourself multiple times you do it while at the same time doing your best to follow through with that job. There’s moments where you gotta work, and then there’s moments where you can regulate yourself. She’s lucky she is a wealthy pop star with resources to get the help needed to make this sustainable, and should be done without missing work; use that privilege to your favor instead of crying all the long day and cancelling shows left and right. Get a better team too if you can. Mental health is important, and people who respect their work and wellbeing will willingly do what its in their power to keep a balance between the two

It's so insanely crazy to get on the internet and claim somebody doesn't seem to want to get better based off of a single statement she's made. She's said she's in therapy twice a week, on top of other things. It's invalidating as f*CK to basically say "if you really wanted to get better you would" as if it's not a actual f*cking struggle. If it was that easy mental health issues wouldn't exist. Please stop commenting on others' mental health, and take a moment to think on why you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself for this ignorant commentary.

This has nothing to do with media literacy. She said the Democratic party has "failed every marginalized community in the world." She's absolutely wrong about that. I know you pay attention to US politics and have seen how Republicans talk about minority groups and the kinds of policies they pursue. The difference between the two parties couldn't be clearer. The LGBT community - to say nothing of any other marginalized group, since I'm in that community myself and have lived what I'm saying - would be significantly worse off if it wasn't for the Democratic party.

She's been equivocating the two parties since her first awful statement on this topic, and it just shows me she has no idea what she's talking about. As a celebrity she has a platform whether she likes it or not, and she needs to learn to be more responsible with it and quickly.

Les Aspin, a democrat Defense Secretary under Clinton, started Don't Ask Don't Tell.

Biden, as a Senator, takes credit for the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act. A bill that helped lead to the mass incarceration of minorities.

The Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986 created the 100-1 rule with cocaine in which a minimum prison sentence was introduced for  trafficking 500 grams of powder cocaine or 5 grams of crack cocaine. There is no formula difference between the two and outcomes for taking the same amount is also the same. The only difference is that powder cocaine was used by white people and crack cocaine was used by black people. The Reagan administration wanted 20-1 as the ratio, Democrats wanted 50-1, democrat Senator Lawton Chiles wanted 1000-1. No experts recommended 100-1, and the only reason it ended up being 100-1 is because Biden co-sponsored the bill and was very respected by Democrats on anti-drug and violence issues.

It's the individual users who cherrypick what Chappell says that have an issue. She said Democrats are not without their flaws. You claim we'd be much worse off without Democrats, but where would we really be if Democrats had not championed key legislation and policies that led to discrimination? Republicans don't care about minorities, period. Democrats don't care about minorities until they see they can use them to win elections. Democrats only started supporting LGBT people within the past 10 years, once people started coming out and Democrats saw value in appealing to them as voters. Democrats only started caring about Black people once they realized that they can just keep them poor and they'd serve the same value as if they were doing prison labor but can still vote. I'm not saying every Democrat politician, but a good amount of them and the establishment. There is absolutely no history of proactive protection of any minority, only the capitalization on the value they bring at some point along the way.

So lemme get this straight, we can only critize celebrities that don't post about mental health? And if we do GGD is a hateful place. Well then that makes it OK to critize KP like y'all been doing since forever, right? The misogyny card only gets to be used when it comes to your favorite artists lmao.

Patiently waiting for miss Katy to post about the anxiety and depression y'all haters gave her ever since Witness and Smile to justify her actions lately like y'all are doing with miss hate-fame anti-grammy vote-gray Chapperón tbh :icant:

“*Some* of the left’s transphobic views.” Didn’t say all (and barely specified who she was talking about) and never claimed that the alleged transphobia was *equivalent*. I, again, without more specific policy and critique, can’t and don’t co-sign her claim, but theoretically, your assertion that her critiquing anyone on the left of transphobia is establishing false equivalence between the Dems and the GOP would be like someone saying: “I believe Kamala is bad for Palestine” and then immediately saying, “OH SO YOU THINK SHE’S JUST AS BAD AS TRUMP?” You’re literally doing the exact thing she’s calling out in the video.

Then what’s the relevance of questioning its truth? You went from claiming that her uncle’s political office was directly relevant to her stance and hypocrisy on LGBTQ+ issues to saying you were “just asking questions” lmao. Be serious 🪦
