okay, I think I’ve finally come up with my thoughts about this record!

my biggest issue is probably the fact that to me this album makes no sense conceptually: the visuals, the build-up, Gaga’s explanation of the record and its meaning… led me to believe that this album was going to be performed from Lee’s perspective. but the record is way too polished, too sane to feel like a collection of songs beloved and performed by a someone like Lee imo. aside from maybe 3 or 4 songs, this reads like a standard cover album -  yes, Gaga did put her own spice onto these classics, but it lacks the edge for me, personally, for this particular concept. That’s why I’m excited to hear the soundtrack now, I have a feeling that I’m gonna like some of the “in character” takes on these standards more than the studio versions! But we will see.

that being said, That’s Life, World on a String, Close to You, hell, the whole second half of the album goes straight to my playlist, it’s such a vibe lmao. She sounds heavenly on these songs, haven’t heard her belt this clean in years, I think. Her rendition of Smile must be my favorite, it’s so haunting and eerie, I never liked the song for some reason, but her version is just flawless.

inb4 I should leave the fandom and never listen to her music ever again, you’re right

Have you seen the film yet? If not, why are you assuming to know Lee, the character, more than Gaga?

It is predominately Jazz. With dashes showtune, Americana, gospel elements.

I prefer Gaga's labeling in her own words: "vintage pop."

LMs gotta understand that there's a difference between "jazzy" and "jazz." Harlequin is jazzy (as in, it has elements of jazz), but it is not a jazz album. The easiest way to tell is by comparing the production of Harlequin with Cheek to Cheek or Love for Sale

Her vocals are godly throughout. How does she keep getting better? I can't even imagine what LG7 is going to sound like :saladga:

I’m already dead thinking about it and the clips we’ve heard after hearing this new album today. I’m not ready. 🤯

righttt

the joker it gives me the climax with a musical dance scene... very defying gravity like to me where the villian (misunderstood) starts to live their life they want to

its so dynamic and interesting to listen to

this got me hyped for the movie next week
