Harris and Walz have been pushing against the narrative that "democrats want to take away your guns" since the start, so this doesn't sound like anything particularly new if you've heard them talk about being proud gun owners.

Imo her gun policy is clever, they're trying to get the most dangerous weapons out and the focus is on regulation and public safety (which should be the priority), while also promising that they won't be going after responsible gun owners.

Once they get a foot in someone else can take over from there and push for even stricter laws in the future.

I don’t own a gun, but I did grow up around them. I think RESPONSIBLE  gun ownership is fine. If you’re actually smart about it, and not worshipping your 100+ collection of assault rifles, then it’s okay. Also, I’m pretty sure she means if they break in and she has no choice (i.e. violent robbers, politically motivated attackers, etc.) then she would use a weapon to defend herself.

A common misconception that is usually fueled by the Conservatives to scare their base. A lot of Liberals are gun owners, I mean, how can one not be when crazy Conservatives threaten our very existence? The difference is that Dems usually don't make guns their whole personality like Republicans do. They see it as a tool for safety but then again, there are Dems who shoot guns for sport as well, so...

No Democratic presidential platform, or party-wide platform has ever advocated for a complete removal of the 2nd amendment right to bear arms.

There's a signifcant difference between a standard hunting rifle and an assault rifle
