They can't cos addition to the ban yesterday, their government also announces fines to anyone who is caught using VPN to acces the site

Yep, although it seems kind of excessive, X/Elon was accused of violating brazilian laws against hate speeches and protecting criminals by not exposing their data to the court

We just got rid of Bolsonaro’s extremely hateful government so it’s correct to stand by the Brazilian law, I completely agree with the ban

As much as I want twitter to flop I don't like big governments banning which sites you can and can't visit. It feels v dystopian but ima just put that aside in this case because I truly wish Elon would flop into irreleancy, everything I've ever seen and heard regarding that man has been INVOLUNTARY. He's just imposed his midlife crisis on the entire world and took away a decent left leaning platform that championed a somewhat progressive agenda. for what? literally for what

So should we all make Bluesky happen? I mean, we all hate Musk. Seems like a good time to jump ship anyway.

Slay - I heard it good now. Does it have DMs yet?

Absoluely embarrassing that neither BlueSky or Threads launched with feature parity (or DMs) like Twitter. You can’t replace it if you can’t even compete with it

Brazil ending monopolies and coglamorates! More competition, more popular platforms, more jobs! I wish a few more big countries ban twitter so other platforms can blossom too!

my exact position! I hate how it is a bit of a authoritarian move to do that but if this is what will take to knock Elon Horrible Musky Stench then maybe i will look the other way and let this one pass lol

Can I add a little bit of context? Cause I see where you’re coming from and it does seem like an authoritarian move/censorship. But X’s suspension happened after a long judicial battle. Musk repeatedly refused to comply with the Brazilian Supreme Court’s orders to suspend accounts that were used to spread fake news, hate speech and attacks on democracy, perpetrated by the extreme-right. Brazilian laws and sovereignty were violated, democracy was being jeopardized. Musk gave no other option and since X is not the only existing platform, it’s really not the case of freedom of speech censorship.

Yes!! Musk fired all of X's employees in Brazil, meaning the country was left without anyone legally responsible for the social network (after ignoring all these orders from the Supreme Court). He has basically been acting for months as if Brazil were a lawless land...

Exactly! And he was so sure he was going to get away with it! Glad to see he got what he deserved!
