Very strange nomination. Any information on how the artists were selected? 

Why Madonna's second performance with the same song, if the medley version in my opinion is more iconic than the solo. And her second iconic performance at the VMAs was with "Vogue", which is not on the list. Also no Britney performances of "I’m a Slave 4 U", which is literally the definition of an ICONIC performance, or even "Gimme More".

The only performances up there that are not only iconic but also good in quality are paparazzi and love on top, but  love on top moment was ruined in hindsight by fake bump and the pregnancy being an open secret anyway.

Actually either of gagas 3 VMA performances (you and I or applause) could have easily taken this
