Was DWAS a compromise between Gaga and Interscope?

Nah, It’s being released as cross promotion for Joker.

It may not have been written with the movie in mind, but the idea of dying with a smile feels very Joker and the music video seems to have some small references to the movie from what we’ve seen in the trailer.

I think Gaga loved what Bruno had been working on and approached him with the idea of releasing it before Joker’s debut to give it some shine and cross promote the movie while justifying a push for the song.

I don’t know if the music from Joker will be as modern and commercial, it feels like they are going more “classic” musical, so we aren’t going to get another Shallow from the actual soundtrack. This is the hit song to promote without it being an official part of the movie.

Movie is debuting in a couple of weeks, it’s not an accident that this song is being released now. It’s to remind the public that she can sing, give her a little hit, have a little association made in people’s head between the song and the movie and have people thinking “Oh she is meant for this role”.

Even the Paris Olympics was used as an opportunity to promote.

You know all the articles written about the movie will mention

“Gaga has had a busy couple of months, opening the Paris Olympics with the theatrical French show tune “Mon Truc en Plumes” and releasing Die with a Smile (a song that is apparently not related to the movie, but that seems to be a sly wink.)”

Or

”Gaga has been on a grind recently, performing Mon Truc en Plumes at the Paris Olympic Opening Ceremony before releasing Die with a Smile, a collaboration with Bruno Mars”.

Or 

“The ‘Die with a Smile’ singer, who recently helped open the Olympic Games in Paris.”

 

Bookmark me: They will release some teasers or another trailer shortly after the release at Venice film festival, hopefully after some positive reviews of the movie and Gaga’s performance, and some paid promo will start to appear in some blogs and news articles about how Gaga has been in her Harley Quinn era. (Think Margot Robbie dressing as Barbie at every premiere - except it’s more music focused).

i'm pretty sure its not that easy. they for sure have expectations.

 

and what iam also pretty sure of is that they didnt liked the long pause and wanted a single before the movie comes out.

   They 100% do. The more successful you are the more they demand if anything. That’s why ARTPOP went the way it did. They picked the lead, they changed the second single, they tried spring boarding R Kelly’s career by having him on DWUW and making it that Gaga was supposed to return a collaboration as “payment”. 
 

   Labels pretty much own you once you sign with them. She is an employee and the product for them. Sure the more she makes the more leverage she has since they know she can find a means out of necessary - but that’s a whole other discussion.
