Am I dreaming? Nope. In the UK, they exclude the top 2 in their SPS calculations, but there’s no such/similar rule or methodology in the U.S. Just like any other pre-release single, its sales and streams will contribute to the album’s opening numbers on debut week, and its to-date numbers will contribute to the album’s total SPS for certification purposes. I don’t love this; I wish she’d just stayed silent on where DWAS fit within her music universe rather than call it a standalone. But, there are far more egregious instances of exploiting this, so… it is what it is. 1

Its numbers on that week of February will absolutely count toward the albums opening figures, just like any lead or pre-album single has and will. Its to-date numbers (sales and streams from before the albums opening week) obviously don’t factor in, just like Disease’s wont. Those will all count toward the albums total consumption for certifications.

JustJames 778
I don’t think Gaga would ever be forced into changing an album in search of a “hit,” like is often claimed. Again, this a label that greenlit Joanne, and then resigned her (with a more favorable contract toward Gaga) AFTER its singles run ended with the release of a standalone track (that was never added or used to boost anything). They’ve always supported her and since then, she reached a new peak with ASIB and Chromatica which gave her 2 top 5 singles - a first since BTW - and sold out stadium tour. DWAS being added does nearly guarantee a #1 debut on Bb200 barring a surprise (even if Kendrick surges after SB, an album with 1 song doing ~8m/day on Spotify is going to be hard to top). It also means we might have (a very small) last chance at DWAS going #1 since it’ll experience a boost during LG7 release week. Lastly, obviously the streams will eventually start to fall off a bit, but DWAS’ recurrents will also mean LG7 should be Gaga’s first studio album to surpass 1 year (52 weeks) on Bb200 since BTW. 2
