God that acoustic Disease performance was incredible. She really put her music school training into that composition. I doubt it's gonna win over more listeners, but oh well. If the quality of the music is top notch, I think that matters a lot.

It's far worse to underperform/flop with bland, empty music (a la Katy Perry). I do believe there's dignity in sticking with your convictions if the song is truly well-made, and Disease is by far her most harmonically interesting song ever.

Plus, idk if y'all remember Stan-wars.com? They have an excellent analysis on how Stans don't actually run things. Like, we fill up the first few rows at concerts and we inflate first week sales, but at the end of the day, all pop artists need GP support and outreach, which is why I think streaming parties aren't the best idea.

Lovely post

i think she really set the bar where she want it to be this time.

nobody ever did this

she is like Tori Amos during the 90s

i think we are in for a different treat this time which is absolutely what we need

to have her free and at her best

I think it’s now safe to say Disease has been a flop :icega:

The new version doesn’t seem to change anything, streaming numbers are not growing anymore and the Youtube views are terrible, it seems like it will take ages to reach 20m views :kry:
Our only hope is that another performance with the pop/single version sometimes in the next 2 or 3 weeks goes viral in a major, surprising turn of event…  Then the song might have a chance to climb back up the charts in January… But it seems quite unlikely at this point…

Is the underperformance of Disease going to hurt the launch of LG7? I’m not sure… If the next single smashes, it shouldn’t be a problem. But if single number 2 performs as bad (or worse) as Disease, then it will be a wild mess.:cryga:

It must be really exausting to think about this stuff all the time. The majority of people listen to music for enyoyment and I care more about the positive critical reception Disease got anyway

Hey, I'm king of the world, you ought to hear my song, you come on measure me, I'm twenty inches long

In all honestly I would be very fine if LG7 is a cult album served for fans only. It's not as if she has not done many GP attempts over the last decade.

If only fans would spend more time enjoying the return to her inner roots instead of crying over numbers. This LG7 would be more enjoyable for everyone tbh

I kinda hope she'll get a decent hit only for complainers to stfu. She could 3 streams daily that wouldn't change how much Disease is incredible

I hope it’s a cult album for her to herself which is what art is supposed to be

no pressure from the world just translate the world and your feeling and make something out of it

see how Lana changed her prospective with her last 4 albums

Unfortunately I think that Gaga is too big of a mainstream name for her albums to garner cult attention. People still put ridiculous expectations on her despite the fact she is a living legend with nothing to prove at this point

So, I’ve consulted with my straightest bestie( she listens to Travis Scott, bless her ears:huntyga:) and she obviously heard the song cause she is friends with me and she likes it a lot, but she also told that from her pov disease is not doing that good because almost nobody knows about it in the first place.

so they really should pull a sabrina if they want it to become a hit( autoplay, payola etc etc)

or maybe this was a little treat for the gays and the slayage begins next year :vegas:

Or maybe she just wants to put out music the old way and see what happens

she is in a position in which she can

thinking this will be her last album for a while …. I dunno

yest I was watching the Antidote version on you tube and I felt like I saw her for the first time if you get what I mean

Lowkey I'd like her to go a bit less mainstream and losing a part of her trash success ***** fanbase tbh

I would love her to push a Lana Del Rey / Charli XCX and doing great with a faithful base and just doing music she loves and believe in. Those passionate artists are always the ones getting the praises. The press reviews feedback from Disease are showing tbh

This is true but we have two outcomes from this

one is the chart results

one is the critic result

she is a legend.

i think and she said it in interviews so many times that she used pop to get to where she wanted to be: to express herself freely through music

now if she sets herself free from the pop machine rules she will make the change to pop start/entertainer to an artist

many female artist had to compromise in order to deliver their best

look at Tori Amos, Lana Del Rey, Annie Lennox

i just care about the music it may sound silly but that’s the truth

when I got to love Gaga in the first place I did not know any of the chart position of her single. I was too busy studying her art

Lady Gaga's second singles are always doing better since BTW anyway :

- Judas was meant to be her Bad Romance 2.0. And even if it underperfored first, it’s now one of her strongest streaming hit right now, crashing BTW  song daily numbers.

- DWUW was meant to be far more commercial and before controversies happened it was actually performing better in reviews and streams than Applause. Cancelling Venus as single btw.

- Millions Reason was a very slow burner but ended up being one of her biggest recent solo hit songs. Making PI a joke in charts.

- ROM crashed SL as a hit, like not even a surprise. She bet everything from Chromatica's campaign on this song.

I could totally see Gaga relaunching LG7 eras with bigger promo and new single early 2025 when Christmas freeze will be over.

That is not only for Gaga

It’s a common practice in the industry for established artists.

Record labels prefer to release not the strongest song as the lead because - it will generally get the most promo and hype since it’s the lead. So even a “weaker” song SHOULD end up being a hit since you slot so many promo spots.
If it flops really hard you can always say it was a buzz single.

The second single is usually the one that label and artist think is the strongest from a commercial standpoint so it can be a hit even with less promo spots than the lead single.

and by that time usually is the album already out so you kinda can see the reception and choose the 3rd and so on.

Of course with like almost everything now, streaming changed the game so we have examples where artists release the whole album and the public kinda chooses the lead. ( Here comes Billie mostly on my mind as an example).

And also artists need a very strong second single because it drives the album sale ! That's why second lead is usually the strongest.
