The problem is... Walz won by like only 0.5% more than Biden did in his state during last election while Shapiro won an astonishing 14% more. He's too strong to be ignored and he has a much better background to be a VP. The 19-seat Pennsylvania thing also matters.

Yeah, but Shapiro also ran against a certified nut job lmao. Mastriano was a deeply unserious candidate (stormed the Capitol on 1/6, promised to refuse to certify the election results in PA should Trump lose 2024, promised to outlaw abortion etc)

Tim Walz might be better for less baggage as a VP. But Shapiro would be an asset if it gives her Pennsylvania.

If she loses Pennsylvania, she'd need to win Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, Wisconsin, Kentucky, and Virginia to get 276. If she loses Michigan and Wisconsin, she'd have to win (270) Pennsylvania to beat Trump.

Kamala is already doing well in PA and Tim Walz would also do well there too. Thinking in constituencies in states only is not the strongest way to capture how politicians appeals to voters

And his approval rating isn't something spectacular in all fairness. 49% positive, 31% negative. Obviously it's an overall +18, but I feel like people saying he'll guarantee PA (which is a knife edge battleground) are buying into the Shapiro camp's media spin. 

I personally don't fully buy into the narrative that Veep picks help pick up battleground states because of local popularity. Shapiro is tied with Whitmer & Kemp for the highest approval ratings of any US Governor. If the popularity of the Governor helps wins a Presidential race in a state, you'd think Kemp endorsing Trump in 2020 would have helped Trump pick up the state. 

If you look at the successful Veep picks going back to Clinton-Gore, what you actually find is the veep was picked for another reason besides state level politics. 
Clinton-Gore solidified the "new way of doing politics" message of Clinton, Gore was another young upcomer in Democratic circles. 
Bush-Cheney, a decades old relationship and Cheney had waaaay more WH level experience. 
Obama-Biden, Obama had zero capitol hill exp or relationships built where as Biden had decades of the stuff. 
Trump-Pence, Pence secured the critical Evangelical vote.
